as you see in my sig, my tail lights are fairly tinted.. nothing too bad..
is it illegal to do this? I looked in the link that jimbo posted and found
quote:
Division 1
Headlamps
Location
6(1) A motor vehicle, other than a motor cycle or moped, must have at least 2 headlamps, one on each side of the front of the motor vehicle.
(2) A headlamp must be mounted so that the centre of the headlamp is not more than 1.4 metres and not less than 560 millimetres above ground level when the motor vehicle is not loaded.
(3) Subsection (2) does not apply to a snowplough truck.
(4) The light from a headlamp must be white, and the lens and bulb of the headlamp must be made of clear, untinted glazing.
(5) A person shall not attach or apply anything that colours the light from a headlamp to the headlamp, part of the headlamp or a bulb in the headlamps.
but nothing under tail lights anywhere.
Thanks. |

Whether its deemed technically illegal or not, you've made your car less safe. Taillights are designed to adhere to certain standards on reflectiveness and perceived brightness at certain distances.
By tinting them you have diminished their effectiveness to some degree. Maybe you'll get away with it, maybe you won't. But will it be you some day that gets rearended on the highway in a blizzard or some dark foggy night when the car behind you didn't see you early enough to stop in time?

As said, you have made your vehicle quite unsafe. The sections that apply and make this illegal are (just below the section you posted):
-----------------
Tail lamps
13(1) A self‑propelled implement of husbandry, a trailer, the last vehicle of a train of vehicles and a motor vehicle, other than a motor cycle or moped, must have at least 2 tail lamps mounted at the rear.
(2) A motor cycle, a moped, a power bicycle and a trailer that is less than 760 millimetres wide, including its load, must have at least one tail lamp mounted at the rear.
(3) The tail lamps must be as widely spaced laterally as practicable.
(4) A tail lamp must be capable of emitting a red light that is visible from at least 150 metres to the rear.
(5) The centre of a tail lamp must not be less than 380 millimetres or more than 2 metres above ground level when the vehicle is not loaded.
(6) A tail lamp must turn on and stay lit when the head lamps or auxiliary driving lamps are lit.
Reflectors
40(1) A motor vehicle or a trailer that is 760 millimetres or more wide, including its load, must have the following permanently mounted on the vertical centre and on a rigid part, other than glazing:
(a) one amber reflector on each side and as close to the front, excluding the trailer tongue, as is practicable;
(b) one red reflector on each side and as close to the rear as is practicable;
(c) if it is more than 9.2 metres long, one amber reflector on each side at or near the midpoint.
(2) A motor vehicle or a trailer that is less than 760 millimetres wide, including its load, must have
(a) one red reflector on the rear that is permanently mounted on the vertical centre line and on a rigid part, other than glazing, or
(b) one red reflector on each side of the rear permanently mounted at the same height above the ground and on a rigid part, other than glazing.
(3) A motor vehicle or a trailer that is 760 millimetres or more wide, including its load, must have one red reflector on each side of the rear permanently mounted at the same height above the ground and on a rigid part, other than glazing.

new Camry's are too bright.
so just a warning if you are driving behind a new camry at night, and at red.
o sorry. yeh, tinting is bad. you could put some brighter bulbs to counter the effects. |

If your tail light meet regulations as stated above your fine.. I tinted mine cause I was 18 and bored. If you lookat the pic I posted you can see the red strip below the lights... I think I got away with it because I added those, and yes they're lights...
But the main reason is cause
this:
tends to look better than this:
And yes I had a crappy camera.. those are all 35mm's scanned |

| People like me tint taillights because it looks better than the stock lights and way better than the euro tails that most of you put on. Tinting taillights black is kind of ghey, i tinted my amber turn signals red so that i have red and white tails and it looks 100times better |

I'd Like to Tint my Lights to a Darker red.. Not fully black.. Only because ALL the 'Euro' tail lights .. Look absolutely GHEY!
and the Black tail's would Match the rest Of the Black/Silver scheme. :dunno: |

just curious why? I ran them on the front of the swift and made my own for a truck I had..
I can see the clear headlight ones being good... let's stone chip the hell outta a $30 accesory instead of a $100-$200+ headlight assembly

I know but tinting is semi-perminent, covers are easy off.
I've done both. |

yup.. functional too..
Twas funny one day I was a a Mohawk getting gas, hood was up cause I was checking oil and some other punk rolls up, he was the passanger and asks if I had a blower on it. |
|
|
| mwdguy |
why would you put a hoodscoop on that car?
increase your HP from 65 to 65 1/4? |
|
|
| SilverNeonRacer |
I'll have you know that car had 95hp stock :P I owned a couple stangs in it.... til about 120 when they get moving....
Actually it hurt milage helped power a bit. It was the first car I tried modding.. I put a 2.25" or a 2.5" exhaust on it.. no cat, cherry bomb, and a glass pack tip. Tinted the winodws myself, did the scoupe and some front bumper customizations myself....
Here's what was under the hood.. don't laugh too hard, try to stay in your chairs:
Yes I know the filter was darn near the same size as the engine.
Before the light tinting and rims... I tinted every exterior light except the auxilary headlamps(stockers sucked anyhow)
Pleas keep in mind that was almost 8 years ago. |
|
|
| tegGSR |
lol OMG please tell me youre kidding....
about both the modding and "owning" the stangs |
|
|
| SilverNeonRacer |
Unfortunatly not.. I modded that and she was a quick car, very light, hense why I took the stangs off the line... my car weighed maybe what their drive train does.
I say again.. that was 7 yrs ago or so. twas my first car I attempted to Mod. |

| As for your taillights being tinted. Lets be honest.... cops can ticket you for just about anything and everything. I just found out you can be fined for selling a car with any sort of winshield damage. ie. chip, crack. It wouldnt surprise me if you got fined for it directly... or indirectly. |
