k well my friend has gdl and she got a speeding ticket worth 4 demarits which will bring her up to 8 meaning she will be losing her licence... so my question is:
if she takes defensive driving before the date posted on the ticket would she still lose her licence or would the demarits come off before the ticket goes through? |

| Ever stop and think that maybe they make 8 demerits = you losing your license for a reason? I know, being a 16 year old girl without a drivers license is, like, the end of the world, but maybe she needs to smarten up. But no, I don't think that taking defensive driving before the court date on the ticket would make up for it. If you want a quick answer she should just go talk to the justice of the peace. |

wow a 4 demerit ticket .. she must have been bookin it ...
In all honesty she should lose it for a while and take the bus.
Then she will gain some respect for teh privledge. |

Good point, Kudos.
I remember reading a recent Jeremy Clarkson article where he said that having a big accident or having your licensce taken away shortly after getting it teaches young people more about being responsible on the road than any course ever could. |

| yes but we live in Alberta where you can be convicted 3 times of drinking and driving, parylize someone and only get 8 months in jail (might be 18) |

yea i kno theres a reason for only having 8... but i could really care less if u think she should lose her licence.. i was asking about taking the course not a lecture on her bad driving habits.. thanx
thanks tokes for actually answering the question.. i told her to go talk to the prosecutor and see what happens.. or else just pay for the lawyer.. much better than losing a licence. |

| well she should try to get out of it i doubt that takin a course now will help at all, but i agree wit everyone on this one, loosin it for a bit will help her smarten up, not sayin shes a bad driver, we all speed sumtimes just that most ppl do it the smart way |

well that's nice & all that you know that..... but does she???
hence everyones answer... she probably didn't give a shit about the tickets until the risks became higher than forking out $$$ to solve the problem. So now that it's going to affect her lifestyle..
i'm gonna agree with everyone else... she should lose it until she grows up
but yeah, seeing as how the 8 demerits has probably already been made note of on her record... what's it matter? you gotta book the defensive driving classes in advance & the test, plus the approval of the defensive driving demerit removal (upon passing) isn't going to happen immediately.... so unless she does it really quick (even if she does) she's S.O.L |

Oh, but you see, there are obviously many people here, including me, that care a great deal about wether she loses her license for a while and hopefully learns her lesson. You see, if she doesn't have her license, that's one less person on the road that might kill me when she's paying more attention to her cellphone than the road.
I hate to break it to ya man, she's screwed. But even if I did know how she could get out of it I wouldn't tell you. There's no excuse for getting that many demerits, ESPECIALLY on a GDL.
