so my rx7 had an exhaust leak coming from somewhere.
take it to webber: they say its the turbo gasket, quote me $1200. I say no thanks, and end up having to pay $75 for their "diagnosis"
got a friend to replace turbo gasket (because thats what webber said was wrong): problem still there.
took the car to a guy that says he knows a lot about rx7's. his guess is cracked manifold.
took the car to abbey road automotive. their diagnosis: the bolts that hold the 2 halves of the turbo together have backed off and loosend. abbey road fixed it for $590
over 2 months passed and now i have my car again.
moral of the story: webber charges $110/h labour, abbey charges $75.. webber will give you a false diagnosis, abbey was bang on.
DONT TAKE YOUR RX7 TO WEBBER MOTORS! |

i've had a similar experience with dealership misdiagnosis/overcharge v.s. independant garage fixing it right for less.
problem:
overheating, bubbles in coolant.
dealership: cracked head or blown gasket, $1200 + to fix
miles automotive: blown coolant fan relay, $250 to fix.
seems dealerships primary concern is to push cars off the lot, not take the timeto fix the older ones. :dunno: |

Newer car = dealership
Older car = independent shop |

| i have found the same thing except that i use backyard mechanics when i cant fix myself. they never charge more than is necessary. I have heard abby roads pretty good too and i have only owned my rx7 2 weeks. |
