Car overheating - Click HERE for Original Thread

Jord@n
My thermostat was stuck open, and the temperature gauge was always in cold, so I replaced the thermostat with a new one. After replacing it, it slowly heats up and doesn't cool down at all now, making it unusable. I'm guessing that it has an air bubble in there somewhere causing it to air lock. Anybody else have any ideas or suggestions on how to fix this?

Thanks,

Jordan

at work , i use a funnel that attaches to an adapter which acts like a rad cap. i fill the rad up and then fill up the funnel a little and just let the car run with heater on but no fans running. usually works for me and the other blockheater jobs that i do

To let the air out, I usually start the car up when its still cold with the rad cap off. Watch the coolant very carefully and wait a few minutes until you start to see it bubble and rise. I wait just until its about to start to overflow and then turn the car off. I then squeeze the upper rad hose carefully, allowing excess coolant to flow into the overflow bottle and expelling air out of the system. This method hasnt failed me yet.

I've parked in a ditch facing steeply up hill so my rad cap was the top thing in the system and kept topping her up til she wouldn't take no more.

Sounds like you put the thermostat in the wrong way.

Sorry, that is definetely not it. I put the thermostat in 3 times, nad it only fits in one way. And it is the same way the other one was in. :p

Thermostats have been known to not work out of the box.

Also, maybe you stuffed a rag into a inlet/outlet to prevent the fluid from dripping but forgot to remove it?

Sounds familiar. I do it the same way. Never fails.

Sounds like the new thermostat is a dud. :smack:
