Ok, I just put a flexalite(sp) 210 puller, duel 12" fans with the varible control - works great, just need to tweek the settings a bit more, but at idle it keeps the car right at operating temp, no spikes or anything.
Now, what kinda gains could be expected? I've heard some people say could free up 4-5hp and I've heard some claims about 15-22hp. Does seem to have better throttle response and better pickup.. I dunno if I'd go as far as saying it's faster.
Milage wise.. I think I got bout an 8mpg gain(mainly highway)
In previous tests during the summer when it was 30+ and the car was running real lean I got 29.41mpg, then normally in cooler evenings bout 10-15deg I was getting about 24-26ish almost pure highway.
Last night I drove home - filled up at the Husky on 153rd and 70th or whatever, went up to 97th, went south to 137.. then proceeded to St. Albert trail, stopped at Timmies and hit the highway. I was giving her a little bit in the city to see if I could get the car to run hotter(test the fans, they never turned on) - thenthe rest was highway on cruise @ 105 - left cruise on up hills she dropped to 100 after a total of 145km I filled up again - took 10.119L so thats 2.67US gal and 90.10 miles = 33.745mpg.
Is that typical or was it anomalous?
Thanks
***Edit, I felt it would be wise to add this is on my fifth ave with a 318, 3spd atx, 2.73 rearend and still has lean burn. Heh all I can say is the new hemi's with multidisplacement have nothin on me..(in mpg anyhow) |

Sounds like an exciting friday night.:p
Why would you be suprised that the fans don't turn on when you're moving? The air getting blown through the rad is going much faster than what the fans could pull.
How much did you pay for them BTW? |

I noticed my throttle response increased a little. The HP is the same as it was b4 though. |

Cause the stock fan spins and the temp stays the same...
how much did I pay... prolly too much.... just over $400 for the fans with a controller(just a basic over heat and cool one though) then an extra $127 or whatever for the varible controller came to just over $500, like $535 for both.
I coulda got one from the states, slightly better more cfm lower amp draw for just over $400 with shipping, just add border rape.
Heh it's the one listed for my car.. sorta and it doesn't fit, well it would but my rad has some raised mounting points for the stock shroud and one of the fans is hitting one... so I need to do something.. might grind the mount off, or just put a spacer to hold the fan away from it for now. come spring I think I'll wire in the AC portion. Ya know I turn on AC and the fan kicks in to 60% |

Originally I was thinking of getting a single 18" that does over 3500cfm(can't remember exact #).
In the past I thought about a wrecker.. never thought about parts stores for OEM replacements. I didn't want "used". |
