| Can anyone recommend any shops to get one's tires studded for the winter? How much should it cost? |

No, it's legal in Alberta. You would be hard pressed to find a tire store that will stud your existing tires, though. Most tire stores will only stud a brand new, unused tire. And it has to be a studdable tire (with the little holes in the tire blocks).
Once you've used a tire on the road, it's god bits of sand, and dirt in the hole where the stud's supposed to go. So when they try to stud it, the stud either won't go in (and with the force used, the stud has to go somewhere, so it becomes a dangerous projectile in the shop) or else it goes in but not very well, and comes out soon after the customer takes the car out on the road. Then, the customer complains about the crappy studding job the shop did.
You'd have to phone around to the stores themselves to find out who will stud a tire and who won't. It's personal preference if they will do it or not. |
