so i've been in the automotive industry for the past 6 years. i stared out as a detailer and the rest is history. but over the past 6 years i've had the pleasure of driving tons of diffrent vehicles and i'm not so sure if i could put my finger on the worst car i've ever driven. so my ? for you guys is.

what's the worst car you've ever driven?

let's try to stick to cars and maybe we'll have a unanimous decision. lol who knows.

Thanks -Ryan

Insomniac
worst car ever: Chevette
worst car that lots of people think are nice: Mustang

SilverZ24
That is a hard question to answer. Worst brand new car or just worst car in general (including used cars). If you include used cars, then maintenance is a big part of it.

Worst car I ever drove was a Toyota Camry, but it wasn't new and it wasn't in great shape. Worst brand new car I have ever driven is probably the Toyota Echo or a base Corolla/Civic/Cavalier/Sentra not that they are really that bad, I just don't like them. :dunno:

Hi Driftr240,

Well the worst car I think I have ever drove would have to be a 1997 Hyundai Accent. This was a rental car that I had for 3 weeks just after I wrote off my Cressida.

The car was a 2 door coupe, automatic. That is it. It was a base modle with little power. The exterior color was dusty rose (according to the key tag, I still say it was Pink) with lepord print seats. It was a real chick magnet! There was no powersteering, manual windows, and locks. No AC, No Cruise control. The stereo was an AM/FM. I think upgrading to an 8 track was an option. :D This car was designed as some form of punishment for me for something I must have done in my younger years.

My next runner up that I have drove would have to be my mom's old 1986 Honda Accord EX. It was crap brown exterior with brown cloth interior. This car was a decent little beast however the Cruise control when set would accelerate the car gradually for no reason. This was always fun. The car had about as much power as a hamster and you never knew when it would break down next. One must love the carborated Accords. This was the year before they moved the accord over to Fuel injection. Overall lots of good memories in that car! This was not quite the chick magnet like the Accent was!

kool posts. look it dosen't really matter what made you decide that it's the worst car. i'm just interested if any certian car sticks out. lots of junkers might be the best car for a lot of ppl, and vice versa.

REFLUX
Probably a 1999 Honda Civic SiR.
Of course that was just a test drive w/ 3 other ppl in the car + it had winter tires on in summer weather.

So damn gutless :D

Supra_devil
the overall worst was my 83 honda accord, lol.

the worst in winter was a mustang, i was amazed the ex gf didn't get in crashes daily in that car.

driftr420
i've had a few run in with hyundias, and lets just say there definitly a manufacturer with a lot of contenders for worst car.lol

Best, most comfortable car right up until the moment the snow flew: 84 Toyota Supra. Then, it was the scariest thing to drive.

Worst vehicle overall, in terms of performance, handling, seats, space and usage thereof, ergonomics, etc: A 2002 Chevy Blazer that I rented in Nashville.

SilverNeonRacer
Ohh tough decision...
1982 LADA 1500S - no first gear, top speed on 91 octane and the pedal mashed was 110km/h

2003 Acura 1.3 - Very cramped, un confortable, slow - twas supposed to be an upgrade from Budget for a weekend...

2002 Neon LE - Automatic tranny - nother budget rental. I will never drive another neon with a 3spd atx tranny, almost got me killed - a couple of them did the same thing, middle of a left turn it decided to no shift into second after it shifted outta first - almost got t-boned - hand to manually put it back in 1st and pin it. Neons with the 4spd ATX aren't bad, 5spd MTX is the best for them

2003specv
I agree with Supra dude, Hyundai Accent. It was a base rental and the worst car I've ever driven. Honestly though, it was kinda fun to drive a POS. I floored that fucker everywhere, it would wind up and make all kinds of noise and then like 10 seconds later, you're doing the speed limit. Then I also did an e-brake turn in a Wendy's parking lot (it was winter) and my great biggie iced tea fell from between my legs onto the floor. I had that car for a week and in that time it never made enough heat to melt all the ice from the drink. I brought it back with Wendys ice cubes all over the floor. LOL

SketchifisT
Drove a Golf TDI that was havin problems , injectors and some other stuff but like 500rpm of power , i almost snapped eveerything on that car. Otherwise i didn't mind the car but when i think of worst drivin experience that beats my 1 blown tire going down the coquihalla in my 79 civic at least that was exciting and scary at the same time :D

Umm just a normal drive, the first PT cruisers gg no power , Hydunai Accent is up there as well.

One thing i hate more then lack of power is lack of the feel of the road. Can't remember what car it was exactly i know a Pylmouth Voyager was bad, but i think it was an Jeep early 90's , COULDN"T feel the road the steerin wheel was so sloppy felt so off and iwas scared to make a turn cause i swore the Turnin rods were broken.

but yeah bout it

i love my supra but not in winter, but its one of those cars that tire choice makes a HUGE difference, its either the scariest or a nice ride, depending on tires. that said, mine scary as hell on snow cuz both sets of tires i have are crap on snow. however, either way there are far better cars for winter.

hopefully soon i will get a new winter beater.

Malaria
worst new car hands down was a 05 kia rio, i fucked the clutch up in a trip to millwoods from sherwood park.

the worst/most disapointing used car was a 350z with 44 thousand k on the clock, the steering was too stiff and the sounds the shifter made when changing gears was like taking a metal pole to asphalt.

The runner up would be a Hyundai Accent ummm 2000 i believe, really bad exhaust leak, 1st gear didnt work and it smelled really bad!

86SilverFox
when i was learning to drive standard a buddy of mine had gone from a ws-6 trans am to a 2002 Kia Rio, i learned to drive standard in the rio, it was awful, no tach, horrible gearbox, the clutch was awful, no power anything. It was an experience.

2003specv
Accent is in the lead.

Inzane
GM's J-Body... hands down. new and used, Cavalier or Sunfire, didn't matter....

POS, in almost every department.

(sorry j-body lovers)

BlueTurboEGG
My 87 Camry was pretty shitty, burned oil just like every other 80's camry during that model run.

And the "power/economy" button did absolutely NOTHING for power...

sparkycivic
in my experience, HANDS DOWN, my friend's mom's 93 merc TOPEZZZZZzz. that fucking piece of shit had no road feel, the steering wandered, the HVAC controls were confusing, it was cold in the winter, it got stuck all the time, it was always broken, it wasn't good on gas, it had no balls, top speed 140 km/h, the radio sucked, the tape player ate my favorite slayer tape, and to top it all off, it was uncomfortable as hell in all the seats.
i had a rental ford temp0, when i was having accident bodywork done to my civic long ago, and besides the speedo sticking at 65Km/h, it was an equally punishing experience in all the same categories that the topEZZZZzz was.
/rant

youngbex
cavaliers/sunfires just dont like them or the way they feel and drive.

as for best car that would be an FC rx-7 god i love those cars!

Honda_Finatic
Worst car i ever had to drive..... was this 1992 Chevrolet Caprice. Frigging boat and when you step on the brake... it feels like you gotta stomp on it before you will slow down.

As for the worst car i have ever owned... well i would have to say 97 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS. Unreliable, handled poorly, bad visibility. I have a 97 Eclipse Spyder now, its doing better so maybe it was just my bad luck with the RS model.

superspeed
geo metro 4 door worse no power no power steering poor brakes uncomfortable and had trouble getting to 50km/hr......seats were HARD its like sitting on the new ets bus setas just plastic and like 5 cm of cushion/cloth its brutal it only good thiing about it is good on gas i soppose

DelSoln
Easy question for me to answer. Hands down it was the Kia Rio. Everything about the car is cheap.

hows does one for from ws6 TA around what 50-60k to a kia......eeeewwww

Thegnome
1980 ford fairmont futura

Only dignity I held in this car was how rare it was.

Otherwise, every week I had to replace something, it was heavy, Never started easy, no power, ate gas, no brakes...bad unit!!

ChromeDragon
Tie between our shitty old Mercury Topaz and my friend's shitty new Sunfire. Both just terrible vehicles.

driftr420
i would have the to agree, cavfire's are really terrible. but i think the worst car i expected a lot out of was a 2002 350z just didn't like it. but on the other hand the g35 was actually nice. as for the tempo i owned one early on, but my first car was a fire fly and you ain't seen bad until you driven on of these 1.3L demons. lol

My wife had a cavalier.. was pretty good, chewed through wheel bearing a little more than you'd figure. The only other issue was when it was really cold the ABS would mess up, and the ABS sucked.

I had a 93 Swift with a 1.3L it was actually really good.

driftr420
man my 1.3L almost got me killed on a daily basis, but this one time in the mountians i had to drop gears all the way to first to make it up a hill. the car only had two ppl and some camping gear in it, that was one of my scariest experinces ever.

SilverNeonRacer
hmm wierd.. mine was a 5spd mtx, no probs, flew down the highway doing well over 100km/h hitting snow drifts... never took it to the mountians though.. had no probs with the hills in downtown ed or here.

My mom had a 1.3L geo metro 4dr 3spd ATX... almost no probs with it either... cept it got parked on a lawn for about a year before she bought it and the exhaust rusted out.

oldraven
I used to work at an automotive shop, so there are just too many to sift through. You wouldn't believe the shit people drive on our roads. As for cars I've driven elsewhere, it's a toss up.

Brother's Brother-in-law's Tempo 5-spd where the shifter was so loose that I had to row around for five minutes just to find reverse.

The other would be my other Brother's old four banger '89 Mustang hatch auto. It was gutless (nearly bogs out first gear), made bad loud noises, handled like an ETS bus, and had shit brakes. Yeah, this was a mechanic's car.

shorti
everytime i've ever had to drive a Sunfire, Cavalier or Grand Am i've wanted to kill myself
i don't understand how people think they are good cars

I don't think I'd go that far.... They're not "bad" cars, but they're not "good" cars either.. they're in between.

SilverZ24
I don't think anyone thinks they are great cars, but for the money they are pretty good bank for the buck. That is what the good part is.

NightmareMX6
I would have to say my aunt's Hyundai scoupe. Wow what a POS, loose gearbox, manual windows, loose steering wheel, shitty ass brakes, burned oil, sounded like ass and absolutly no balls. I hated having to drive that shitty thing.

Next worst would be my friends '94cavalier z22. No tach only a shitty light that was set to shift at what seemed like 2000rpm, manual windows and again no balls.

Jarenz
i drove a 87 accord hatch that my dad just about bought me when i was looking for cars. It had no power steering as a matter of fact no power anything. The radio could be pulled out and taken with you, no foam left in the seats aND pretty much completely rusted out. I'm glad i got the lude

i know, when you think about it it is really just awful, he got t-boned at a 4 way stop 3 or 4 years ago and hes still trying to fight it in court to no avail, he ending up going back to school and couldnt afford the trans-am so he bought a kia lol.

testingcheck
Worst car i drove was at work. A 1996 sunfire. It was manual and when i went to shift the the shift knob came off and all there was left was the stick and to get out of the car you had to pull some tab inside the door panel (broken off door handle)

Jarenz

My friend had to roll down his window for two months just to get out indide door handle broken

Z32NUT
Cavaliers and Sunfires definitely.

From base to Z24/GT they handled like crap and the motor sounded like it wanted to bail out from under the hood everytime you tried to push it beyond anything other than "old guy with a John Deere hat" kinda driving.

As for the fit and finish? Well, I think they left out that part or saved it up for the $60,000 full leather pickups and SUV's.

Bad Egg
A mid eighties Chevette wins hands down for me. A loaner from an auto body shop that was repairing some vandalism on my pick-up.

Flipping on the defrost would bog the motor enough to stall it, you had to keep the revs up - this was an automatic mind you. A handy feature in January in Edmonton. Not one of Chevs finer automobiles.

seevik
deffinetly a 95-97 cavalier 4 door automatic that i was driving for at the driving school, that thing was a piece of shit like it was a 100 yrs old, drove sum neons, all pieces of shit, and my first car that i got for free was a 91 caprice, used to be a cop car, but it was soooo bad didn even bother insuring that thing, tested it in the neighbourhood and rite away sold it to pick ur part

ehos
Chevette/Pontiac 6000. I swore off domestice because of them.

But I would still take a Mustang GT (coupe) :)

well 2 days ago at work we had to drive a 94 geo metreo to some shady car dealership. Now heres the story the car was missing the rear window, burning transmission fluid and oil my boss told me thats all that was wrong. Get out to the car me and another employee were stumped because the thing wasnt starting, turns out you have wiggle some wire to while trying to turn the car over. We get the car started, but the start was still trying to turn this POS over. Here comes my boss yelling "Turn it off" the POS was still trying to turn over after we turned the car off and removed the key. "DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY" with a few shocks we got battery disconected. Second attempt at starting this POS worked out fine. the best part was driving got onto yellowhead 100km/h the thing felt like it was going to break loose scary shit. O and this thing had 197xxx authentic km the lady that brought it in for trade knew nothing about cars, and ended up buying a lease return car, 2002 KIA enough said

it drove like a boat, yet it wasnt that big...
it made the grand voyager seam like a sports car

old ass lada saguna that wouldn't start in the -30 winter weather.

Hustler M
Worst cars I've ever driven would be mid 80's dodge compacts. I've driven quite a few, Omni,Laser, Daytona, K-car, I thought they were all horrible. As far as newer stuff 2000 Sunfire sedan. I had one as a courtesy car and I hated it.

driftr420
buddy i drive a 88 daytona this is also my project car at the moment. this is also my second late 80's dodge turbo, i'm in shock that anyone would consider these firecrackers for the worst cars. maybe all your experinices were all with n/a cars because i think the turbos speak for themselves.

v8killah

i used to work for londonderry chrysler, so ive driven my fair share of extremely nice cars, considering what i drive! but i could post a reply saying that the worse car ive ever driven was a 1982 honda or something obvious like that, but i'd have to say the worst car ive ever driven was a SRT-4, sorry SRT-4 guys, but its true. now keep in mind that i've had the pleasure of driving a Dodge Ram SRT-10 from the Big 4 dealership in Calgary to Edmonton, so as far as the nice cars, SRT-4 is the worst.
