Good Idea or not - Click HERE for Original Thread

Flex
I was wondering if anyone has any insight into this.

I purchased an 06 WRX and my aftermarket wheels off my 02 WRX will fit except that just rub the brakes. (the 06 has a larger brake kit on it) The wheels I have, have a real thick beefy spoke on them. So I was wondering would it be a good idea or not to say have a machine shop take out say a 1/16" on a radius to clear the brakes?? To get the exact measurment I would measure how much clearence on the stock wheels on the 06 and get that much machined out of my aftermarket ones.

So would it be something I could do or just I stay the hell away from that kinda thing?

Why not just use a wheel spacer?

No thats not mine....mine is blue

as for the spacers.....I was told to stay away from them

ever think about shaving your calipers a bit? I'd rather do this, then play with the spokes on the rims.

bigmack000
or take off the brakes not the wheels

Flex
I'd rather buy new wheels then do anything with the brakes.

I was planning on buying new wheels....but just thought I would throw this out and see what kind of response I would get.

gab
what kind of wheels are they that you are trying to put on?

For my car, it's common to upgrade to C5 corvette brakes. But when you use smaller wheels, you end up shaving some of the material off of the cooling fin on the caliper. A lot of guys do it, without any problems.

Spacers would be your best bet, they dont do anythind bad. You can go to Canadian Wheel in Edmonton and find some pretty cheap.

Good luck.

actually, my buddy has some spacers he had machined for his subaru. he doesn't need them anymore, i'll ask if he wants to sell them. i believe they are 8mm

icydude

they just rub the caliper itself......all it needs is a tiny amount for them to clear.
