Well I found a garage for my 300ZX to sleep in over winter (now I can work on the car) and decided I was going to do small things to the car over winter like change my rear lights and center panel to the JDM ones, install a new CD player, blah blah blah...and decided that I was going to pull out the "Headlight Washer System" and was wondering if anyone has donethis to their car?...Did you do it yourself? Was it hard lol (maybe I won't do it myself) and if there was anything special that need to be done?...how do you deactivate the button for the system?
P.S anyone running their Washer System to their intercoolers?...like a water cooled intercooler. (someone that came into work oneday gave me that idea...they said they were going to do that to their Z32)...seems like a waste of time to me...the effect I'm guessing would be none or very minimal:dunno: maybe i'm wrong and it does help?
thanks again,
~Edwin~ |

Yep, I've done it:

To disable the wiper swipe, you have to modify the relay mounted up inside the pass. side fender well. Or, if you are removing the system entirely, I would pop out the relay to eliminate the switch.
Does it work? I've ran a couple of autox's and a dyno run :
NECC dyno day, May 21, 2005. Stock boost (no boost jets, no I/C spray):
Second run, stock boost, I/C spray:
The car was throughly heatsoaked (warm day, 24 deg.)
Does it make a difference? Seems to a bit, and it's certainly easy to mod to spray the I/C's
Mind you removing the whole system isn't too hard either, but you'll have to pull the front fascia for either option.

| Very interesting idea. I might have to do that eventually. Think I'll probably do it when I get a different front fascia (i.e. '99 JDM) |

Hi Edwin,
Just curious, how did you come to that decision?
I've eliminated my entire headlight washer system. What you have to remember is if you remove those washer sprayers, you'll be left with holes there on your fasica, in a very obvious place. I did mine when I switched to a jspec fascia, so it was a none issue for me. And if I'm not mistaken VorpalZ did his around the time he got his oem fasica repainted, so he probably had the body shop fill the holes.
When I did mine I even removed the resourvoir to free up space behind the passenger-side intercooler. (and a bit of weight savings, albeit small... with the resourvoir moderately full the tank, pump and hoses weighed about 12-13 pounds if I recall).
VorpalZ went for intercoller spraying, I went for better intercooler
airflow... two different approaches to try to achieve a similar outcome.
I'd thought about whether I'd want to leave the resourvoir in place for future water injection some day... but I'll worry about that another day. I can always put it back if I need to. For now I've uncluttered a lot of space in both fenderwells.
Congrats on finding a garage BTW.

Actually, I still haven't got my fascia repainted :smack:
I had some old threaded hardware inserts from my NA and a couple of washer caps, plugs the holes until I get it painted.
Sorta like: paint the fascia, hmmm hood has some rock chips, and the front fenders aren't looking so hot... and the rocker areas are rough, and the're's an annoying series of chips on my drivers door... and a nice scratch on the hatch....and the window trim is faded...
Dayum, just do the whole thing. Mebbe next year...

Nada, your windshield reservoir is on the back driver's side, open the hatch and you'll find the plastic filler. Totally separate system
