yea thats what i was thinking too, but they are sweet and practical

S2KPWR
what year rx7?

FC or FD?

I would say FD,.... 2door, then 4door skyline.

SilverNeonRacer
Dunno... I kinda like 4drs.... theoretically should be cheaper on insurance because it sorta takes it out of the sports car class and into the family sedan.. I know the SRT4 is like that, so is the new "charger"

arjay
Just spin a wheel or something, theyre all sweet cars.

Dunno about the insurance part, my pink says GTS-4 then 2 door, I tried to see about a reduction because it was 4door, but got nowhere.

youngbex
hmm tx7's has pulled into the lead! speak up people who are saying rx7, why do you think i should get an rx7

icydude
I think cefiro.

SketchifisT
RX-7 is nice if its turbo, only issue is if you dont know the history you maybe lookin at a Rebuild really soon all things depending.

4 door skyline is cool and practicial but if you dont use the back seat that much get the 2 door and toss the stuff in the hatch.

If you got a family or car pool or need that extra space sure 4 door is great. I voted 2 door skyline because if you are going skyline unless you have a family get the 2 door.

RX-7 would be my number 1 choice but if its doin street drivin, AWD is more forgivin then a powerful RWD

Agreed. But make some serious power and it'll come. It'll also be more of a sleeper (although RHD cars are always suspect).

Markgase2000
People often ask "why did you buy a sedan Mark?" well a sedan is a better party car IMO. Im kinda retarded fond of 4 doors. I like my 2 door car tho its just not my style I think :dunno:

Go 4 door skyline! lol

what year rx-7 makes a huge difference???

seevik
if the rx7 is fd(92 or 93 and up whichever year they started makin it) then rx7 imo i just love the way it looks, i was never into th r32 skylinesbut thats just the looks cuz i dun think ill ever own any of those

REFLUX
I think you should go for a 2dr skyline.

Owning a rotary isn't all peaches & cream...and if shit goes bad, it goes terrible.

Only up side to owning an RX-7 is that no matter what continent they're from, parts are the same and can be sourced out locally.
Whereas there wasn't a North American Skyline

mx73someday
The others don't even compare to a 4dr Skyline battle unit.

Inzane
2 dr and 4 dr skyline is not very descriptive.

Are you looking for a vanilla Skyline, or a special Skyline?

I admit I don't know a lot about them but I know enough to know not all derivations of the Skyline are something great.

ehos
You must be quite contrary to own a rotary. You will read and appreciate that a rotary is unique.

Hands down, the FD is the single best car I've owned/driven/test driven. And I've driven ALOT of cars (including Skylines, GTiR's etc etc).

There is a TON of reasons, but for me it's..

1) Drop dead gorgeous. Be prepared for alot of attention!
2) SMOOOOoooooooooooth linear power. I'm into crotch rockets and the FD winds up like a bike.
3) LIGHT! 2950 with me in it! Tight!
4) Handles better than anything else out there. STOCK :)

But best of all, this car was made by mad genius. It's a dedicated SPORTS car, probably the last real sports car made with zero compromise or comparision. There's a reason why it makes top 10 lists of ALL time great cars (it shares spotlight with cars costing 5 times it's new car price).

ehos
The only question is, can you handle a FD?
Are YOU ready for it? It's not a car for everyone.

i wouldt totally agree i hope you have about 10'000 just sitting around becasue something will go. there great fast cars but they do require a rather large bank account.

Frist thing to get is a boost controller and a ported waste gate. If you can't afford that then dont get/drive the car. Also next upgrade should be an ecu. Getting the stainless oil mettering lines is also a must as mine broke and honestlly you dont notice that little leek but it can cause premature engine rebuild. Next send it to calgary and get them to change every vacume line in the car to silicone and get them to tune that ecu for you. Next thing i would do is change every fluid in the car form the trans to the diff doesnt hurt and if you see large chunks of metal in anything there begins another $$$ venture. So you at about $2000-$2500 and you havent even bought the car.
ecu about $900 i would get power fc tunned another $300
stail less lines about $700 installed (good luck doing them your self)
silicone vac lines $500 installed (i wouldnt do this if someone paid me to do it)
fluid change about $150 for everything

You can do what i did get and intake, get struts get exhaust and a downpipe. and then have an rx-7 with a blowen engine and turbos. That this winter is going to cost me about $6000 to get everything i want. but in the end its going to be 360 whp so.... i can live with it. i bought my car for $22 000 and by this summer it will have gotten over $30 000. But hey if you have the cash and friends that can drive you around when shit breaks then hey all the power to ya hope this help you with you decission

oh and make sure you have another car to drive to get parts when something goes lol.

ehos
I would go with the reliability mods first (after basic maintenence of course!)

1) AST
2) Downpipe
3) Boost Gauge

That's it. Stop. Drive the FD. Change the oil LOTS (it's cheap and it's easily the best thing you could do for it). Enjoy! :)

255HP and 2800ish lbs is a house. No, a BARN.

There is a reason why so many FD's have blown engines. BAD BAD owners! :(

Edit: I would keep doing the 'reliability' mods like Koyo Rad, Water Temp, Efini Y pipe, before I would even THINK about Catback/MP/Fuel etc etc.

I won't disagree with most of what you said. But I will point out that the FD hasn't won nearly the number of awards and accolades that the Z32 has. But part of that is exactly due to the subject of compromises vs. no compromises, as you pointed out. The FD's hardcore nature probably narrows its overall market appeal a bit.

But before everyone in this thread turns this into a story about the RX-7 (FD), people should refocus on the thread author's original question and what his NEEDS are. Does he want a purpose-built no compromise "sports car", or does he need some comfort and practicality, etc. ?

Excellent point :) Like I said, I'm very biased.

Also, youngbux, have you driven a RHD car in a LHD world? It's VERY different. Talk about making the ultimate compromise!
