When is the best time to buy a new compuiter, desk top or lap top? I would like to get something for school next year and keep my eyes open for sales but they never seem to go down in price...? If it's for school then probably in August, just before classes start or are prices jacked up then for us poor students to pay more? I haven't purchased any computer stuff for a very long time.... except my digicam, which is amazing (best investment, next to car)! :D
Oh, if I go desktop is it better to get one of those hp/compaq/...? premade computers or is it better to get a place like LD or Dell to make you one? I just think I like the convenience of the laptop more though! |

chris, if you go premade, get a dell, theyve got some faithful customers, and theyre good machines, unlike some of the others.
if people are interested, i should be able to get parts at wholesale prices, ill try and find my pricelist.
so, people who want a computer put together, let me know what your looking for, and ill see if i can put something together for a nice price. |

Don't buy a laptop for gaming, if you want to play games get a desktop.
Check out Bcom computers they tend to have great sales all the time, and you can pick up a pretty decent machine for a good price. One thing though, do not go really high end, it may be tempting, but spend most of the money on a good monitor, I recommend the NEC Multisync Superbrights.
They do have laptops on sale fairly often too, at the moment they have a TOSHIBA SATELLITE 2410-CTX P4 1.8GHZ 40GB/256MB/DVD-CDRW/15"TFT/MOD/NIC/XPHOME PS241C-2DCTXP as far as I know Toshiba makes a decent machine, this one is $2150 right now. Pretty good deal if you ask me. (it's like 8 times the speed of my comp)

I thin the 2410 only have Geforce 4 420 to go with 32 Mb
it;s not enough for gaming~ |

That's why I said don't buy a laptop for gaming.
And believe me any Geforce is enough for gaming, unless you're trying to run full res at 2048x1536 you shouldn't be too bad.
I have a K7-600 that I've owned for over 3 years, and I've never had a problem running games. There are a few now that are a little slower, but at 1024x768 I have no problem pushing 50+fps. That is with 128mb ram and a TNT2. You can buy a 2ghz comp with a strong vid card and 256mb of 333mhz ram for under 1k. Buying a laptop for games makes no sense, you'll have to buy another monitor to actually play the game, I don't care how nice the LCD is, there will always be some ghosting.

Bcom isn't actually the greatest place to go.
There is a store in callingwood with cheaper prices, I'm going to look up the name and post it when I find it. |
