This has been happening rather frequently this past week and a half.
Neighbors daughter (I think) has a boyfriend with a loud stereo, he drops her off every night at 11-11:30pm.
This size inadaquate male feels the need to blast his very loud stereo everytime he's in the area. I'm not talking about just for a minute or two, I'm talking about 10 to 15 minutes while they suck face in the driveway.
I'm in bed by 9 and I wake up at 5am on workdays, and this has really has frayed my nerves to the fucking end.
Does anyone think the police would be able to respond to a noise complaint in at least 5 to 8 minutes? what are my options if they can't get there quick enough?. |

No they won't show up and talk to the girls parents.... then when that doesn't work you won't feel bad about going to Plan B. ;) |

| You could go talk to the girl and kindly ask her to tell her boyfriend not to do that, or just phone the cops tonight when it happens again and hope they'll make it in time. |

That would be the most reasonable option. |

Best plan: go talk to her and ask them to keep it down. If that doesn't work you can call in a noise complaint, but unless there just happens to be a cop in the area you're prolly looking at 15 mins or so for response, so buddy might be gone by then. Option 3: pm me his plate, type of car and the address where he drops her off and I'll talk to a friend. Here is the particular section (other than the noise ones of course) that is good in these senarios if he is just generally being an ass:
Section 87, Rules of the Road
Disturbance of residential area
87 A person driving a vehicle shall not, during the period of time commencing at 10 p.m. and terminating at the following 7 a.m., drive the vehicle on a highway in a residential area in a manner that unduly disturbs the residents of the residential area. $115 |

| If talking doesnt work.... then i guess you gotta go with the cops. That.. or continue to sacrifice sleep over it. |

lol i don't usually make it a point to be bumpin subs when i come home late at night....but since im on the highway coming home the road noise i usually turn it up and don't realize how loud it is...i try and remember though...but i think around my area they keep there lips closed cause of a little "accident"...i came home one night and the neighbour i think was coming up to ask me to turn down the music at night...i was walking about halfway from the car to the driveway when he stopped me....i don't deal with weapons or anything of the sort but the previous owner had left a baton in the rear seat which i was bringing inside the house and well he looked down at my hand and turned the other way. i thought it was pretty amusing and i guess he talked to some of the neighbours cause they all quickly look the other way when i get out of the car :p
i would suggest just talking to the daughter (no need to get her parents involved) and just ask her if he could turn the music down...theres alot of young and stupid people out there but alot of them will give some respect if asked nicely |

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone and thanks for the offer Keebler. He seems to be keeping low key at the moment, which means I haven't got a plate number and I have been getting sleep (crosses fingers)
Hopefully I won't ever hear from him again. |

in reference to a funny joke i once read:
call the police and tell them someone is being noisy with their car at some address. when they tell you they're too busy to respond right away, thank them and hang up. then call them back shortly and tell them you just shot them and no longer need them to show up. when they show up within minutes, and find nothing's happened, they'll ask, "i thought you said you shot them." you respond, "i thought you said no one was available."
HAHAHAHAHA
don't actually try that, cuz that's public mischief.
but get his license plate and complain, they'll probably phone him and give him a verbal warning, then if it persists, then i'm sure they have some noise bylaw in edmonton...in st.albert it's in effect 24 hrs a day, and generally, they give the person a first warning, if they need to respond a second time they get a ticket which is in the neighborhood of ~$400 (somebody correct me if I'm wrong). |

This happened to me about 4 years ago. I actually went outside and confronted the guy and didn't even pretend to be nice about it. I gave him quite an earfull. That tactic (out of character for me) actually worked and I never heard a peep again. However it pissed the girl off and she never spoke or looked at me again for at least a couple few years after that. LOL
The ironic thing was I'm the youngest home owner on my street and I took the role of the "cranky old guy".

| All that goes through my head is were are her Parents. You would think they would get pissed at the noise also. Did they just ignore it or does there kid not give a shit about what her parents think? |

The noise bylaw in Edmonton is also 24/7...most cops will give a warning the at the first complaint (although they certainly don't have to). The wording is actaully just an "unreasonable" noise...and the cop is the judge of what's "unreasonable" based on what they hear or what the witness tells them. There is no certain decible level or any of that crap. The ticket is $260 and it actually doubles with each previous conviction you have so it can get very expensive very quick for someone who just won't keep it down. Not that I know or anything  |

This reminds me of a funny story. I was leaving a friends house a couple weeks ago (when it was -10 at night), it was 11:00pm and we were standing outside with our cars idling to warm up. Nobody was reving, just idling turbo cars not even loud at idle, we were chatting quietly for maybe 2 minutes and this 30 something douche comes blasting out of his house and starts yelling at us making more noise than the cars were.
Douche: ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME????
5 guys on driveway: Uhh... what?
Douche: DO YOU KNOW WHAT TIME IT IS??? I HAVE TO WORK IN THE MORNING AND YOU'RE OUT HERE MAKING ALL THIS NOISE!!!!
5 guys on driveway: Laughing. What noise?
Douche: I'LL WIPE THOSE FUCKING GRINS OFF YOUR FACES!!!!
5 guys on driveway: Is this guy for real?
Douche: Starts taking down plate numbers
Me: What are you going to do with that? Call the cops? Do it, I'll wait right here. Is it fucking illegal to idle a car when it's fucking cold out?
Blah blah blah
My favorite part was when he was calling us imature for being 20 somethings with done up cars. HAHAHA HE was trying to pick a fight with us for christ sake! Yeah thats real mature you fucking prick. Anyway, the point of my story is that if he had approached us and said listen guys your cars are keeping me up, do you mind moving along, we would have apologised and made our way out of there. Instead he was a huge prick, almost got himself killed (5 on 1, great odds genious) and just pissed everyone off.
No point in being a dick of you don't need to. |

| Violence wdoesn't solve anything. Just makes more people angry and therefore leads to more violence. You could always try either offering the guy a beer or a joint and then talk to him about the problem, then once he is drunk or high and he gets in his car and leaves, call the cops on an intoxicated driver. YOU WIN. |
