well, here goes a question that will probably get me flamed or laughed at, but my friends got an older toyota tercel, and ive got a spare supra engine kicking around.
what we want to do is drop the supras inline 6 and a 5 speed tranny into this little tercel automatic.
now, i figure we will need a better radiator, and to move it forward, maybe bash out the tranny tunnel a bit, and probably move stuff around under the engine bay.
has anyone heard of something like this? anyone know if its actually possible?
going to be taking measurements today or tommorow, so ill post up numbers then. |

isn't the tercel an FF?
I think you would have to readjust the drivetrain since the supra engine is from an FR, but i could be wrong.... |
|
|
| dmak_el |
it's possible
but i think u will need alot and alot of work, coz as JDC says tercel is FF and supra is FR...so there would be a big problem...... |

| Do it , that would definetly be unique as a good eye catcher, myself am looking into building a 32 ford 3 window coupe chopped and dropped with full S2000 drivetrain. Dare to be differant |

| It might be easier to use a Starlet. or use a camry V6 for the tercel. |

actually the tercel is FR :)
i didnt get to take measurments of the engine, but eyeballing it says ill have to push either the rad or the firewall a bit.
not sure which would be easier, i think sledgehammering the firewall might just be simpler ;)
hehe well, if you folks see a black hooded white tercel 4 door ripping around town this summer, youll know what happened :)
ill keep you filled in once i figure out how things are gonna go together |

that would be expensive... do the ecu matchup...
(wiring would be a bitch if it doesn't)... motor mounts would be another problem... would you be able have the accesoriess work... axels, drivetrain, transmission... etc |
|
|
| dogstar |
well, i figure the supra ecu and wiring harness will be going in, along with all the Efi gear (pump, tank, charcoal canister, ect).
motor mounts will be fabricated by my cousin whos been welding for 10 years, tranny from the supra should work, diff will probably disintegrate, but i can always look into bashing the diff and IRS from the supra under the tercel.
its not gonna be a weekend thing, and itll probably cost some, but it should be a fun ride :) |

Hold on....Back that truck up! The Tercel is FR?!?! I always thought the tercel was ff. What years where they FR. I don't mean to doubt you, I really just want more info. I mean, if those tercels came FR they'll suddenly go up on my coolness scale (kinda like chevettes did when I found out they were FR).

i think the one were gonna be working on is an 83? something in that range.
and yup FR, got a nice lil chirp out of it when my buddy wasnt paying attention ;)
(red line it on ice, then once its spinning, hit dry pavement)
should be a fun car once it has some balls. |

| There is no FR Tercels. It was toyota's first FF in Canada. It's engine is longitudinal like an Intrepid or 91-95 Legend. |

| prophet.. I coulda sworn along with everyone else that tercels were FF cars.. all these years I was wrong hmmm... well if it has a diff in the rear then obviously it's FR :) good luck with the project man it'll be crazy to see.. btw I don't know if I skimmed over too quicly but what supra engine are you using? I mean what year don't tell me like b16a34-2... that shit means nothing to me lol |

| why not swap the jdm turbo 1.5 (?) from the starlet? or a 4a-GZE? |
|
|
| dogstar |
actually, i was wrong, the tercel is a FF... yes, i know, dumb mistake, but the thing drives like a FR, and in the dim light, seemed to have a diff under the ass end.
anyways, now that i feel like a shit, weve decided to change the project somewhat...
apparently a 4a series motor will bolt up to the factory transaxle, and now im looking for a used 4agze.
probably end up upgrading the transaxle too, but id like to get it bolted in and running before i start complicating things too much.
i was still thinking about the straight 6 outa the supra anyways, but itd need too much work, so funk it.
so yeah, slight change, but a supercharged 4 cyl would be just as much fun as a torquey inline 6. |

| u can have my 4age whjen i get a gze.... |
