I was just wondering if these would be legal.. they are black vs. the chrome ones that come with the car. I would think that the light produced by them would be greatly reduced.. but they do not have any type of smoking or tint..

Lenses are made by OEM approved manufacturers with quality meet or exceed OEM standards
The problem w/ these lights is the chrome backside is actually intended to reflect the light forward. I would say w/ black some of the light would actually be absorbed as compared to reflected. You may notice the quote says the lenses are OEM. What colour of bulb would you install? Also remember that you must have either an amber relector on the front sides & a red reflector on the rear sides ... doesn't look like these have them??

| Thats what I was thinking to jim, but the 93 civics actually don't have orange reflectors on the front, well... they have ones that face outward.. but to my knowlage only the newest version of the APC civic clear corners actually have a amber reflector in them.. does that mean the hundredes of EGs civics with the clear corners are not propperly equipt for road use ? |

On a 1993 Honda Civic the amber reflector is built into the lense. They have approx 2/3 clear lense & 1/3 amber reflector (the outer corner).
Sorry to burst your bubble guys.

| ya but I don't wana have illegal stuff on the car.. I will just mod some of the new APC ones with black paint.. the law does not say anything about putting the stuff on the inside.. and I will leave some of the chrome showing so I still get a bright flash from the signals |

DOT (Department Of Transportation) is an American standard that really has little or no effect in Canada. It's easy for these companies to put whatever they want on the outside of the product's boxes. You also have to remember that a lot of these type of products aren't even manufactured in North America. For competition use (whether racing / showing / etc) none of these products are required to be legal. You can pretty much put what you want as long as it meets the class' requirements. That's why stores can sell them. Where they go wrong is they won't tell you that they're illegal under the Highway Traffic Act (or it's Regs). Will they give you your money back if you get a ticket? You can try but don't hold your breath. The best thing to do if you are thinking about purchasing a high priced aftermarket piece is to either ask on this discussion forum or call a traffic unit within the RCMP or EPS. We deal more with this type of stuff than the general duty members do.

you will also notice, almost every aftermarket part out there carries the disclaimer "not for use in on-highway vehicles"
aka, it may or may not be legal, so check first. |
