There have been rumours around about this happening in cities everywhere. I heard a story about someone doing the same thing in Edmonton years ago.

bahahahah

You know, it really makes me wonder why there hasn't been more "vigilante" action against photoradar & red light cameras.

Especially the red light cameras.

I mean think of it, all a person would have to do is take a bottle of black spray paint & a stepping ladder, black out the glass in the camera box and voila.
It might not last forever but it'd for sure stop several ppl from getting red light tickets.

Or how about that new photoradar "box"
What's preventing people from simply tipping it over?

Didn't someone throw an Edmonton Sun box on top of a photoradar van a while ago?

lol, sweet!

Please tell me you aren't promoting violence against the vans Terry. The person operating that van was nearly killed.

I for one think that there should be red light cameras at every intersection. While I may speed a bit, I do not ever run red lights and I think that those who do should be severely penalized.

The last thing we should do is fuck around with red light cameras. I actually believe in those things. There's no operators disgresion involved there. If you're ten over, it's debatable. If you run a red light, you've absolutely done the wrong thing.

2nd that. :)

ppl have done the photo radar thing before, but the operators arent supposed to talk to people so they get in shit for it.
Still funny tho

Not that I'm advocating violence, either, but that van operator was not nearly killed. The box crashed through the back hatch window, and the driver was sitting in the driver's seat. All it did was give him cause to change his underwear, and make him a little more cautious about parking near overpasses in the future.

You just dont hear about it, cause the media doesnt say anything.

I had a buddy throw a cinder block through the back window of one,, nothing on the news about that.

I have no prob with red light camera.. as long as the yellow is timed right for the intersection..

If they put up a redlight camera, then shorten the yellow by a second.. then no, I'm not for it.

Whats to stop somebody really.. from taking a photo of a plate on a radar van... sizing it right... printing it on photo paper from a high quality color laser printer.. and taping it over their own plate for a few passes... so much easier to take off when done...

I think an old friend of mine did the plate thing a while back though..

Or they make those plate thing for trucks with roll pans.. so when your at a show you flip a switch and you plate tucks up under the truck.. just run one of those... see a van flip it up, once outta range drop it again... or get 2.. one for your actual plate, and one for a print out of a van plate :P swap them as you pass... then swap back....

Keep running through speed traps at excessive speed with your plate flipped down and you can be sure the real cops will have their eye out for you. And they aren't going to be giving you a tiny little photo radar ticket.

REFLUX
hahha no I'm not promoting violence against radar, especially since I've never been dinged by it so I have no beef with it, but I'm just surprised nothing has happened.

I guess like Aaron said, it just isn't reported, not that things don't happen.

Can't a guy ramble his thoughts online

Well.. if your gonna ru through plateless you only flip it when you see the van.. you don't go around the block and do it again.

What about the ppl with their plates on the rear dash that photo won't see?

ehos
Those guys aren't smart.

I have a better idea. Drive by the photorader van, WRITE down the lic. plate number, go home.

PHOTOSHOP the plate onto your car, and have fun :)

Not that I would advocate this of course...

Insomniac
How about the "who gives a fuck" alternative, where you do nothing since playing little pranks does fuck all other than give the pimply faced offender a story to tell his friends so he can feel like "THE MAN"?

I mean that if you run through a bunch of traps over an extended period of time.

A friend of mine installed a flip down system for his car and I told him that the cops would eventually wait for him at one of the radar traps if he kept doing it. He drives past a couple on the way home almost every day (Yellowhead and 82 st).

Sorry, but the cops don't think it's so funny when people mock them as they break the law.

What about those ppl who buy photo fog and the sticker things from JB's.. same concept.. heh.

For me it could work.. I pass a photo radar trap maybe once a month if that....

But not like I would do it.

My dislike with red light cameras are that people think as soon as it's yellow to slam on the brakes weather they are 10 ft from the intersection or 50, causing the people behind them slam on their breaks and so on.

I remember one time when i was driving heavy truck, i was loaded up with equpiment, when approching an intersection on 91 St northbound at 34 Ave when the car infront of me a small sunbird sees the light change approx 15 feet before the stop line. The light was just turning yellow, the guy slams on his brakes to a squeeling stop. Now my 15000 lbs truck at 65 kms at safe following distance of more than three second has no where near the stopping power of the sunbird. I missed his rear bumper by inches. When i asked him why he stopped so suddenly, he replied because he saw the red light sign, when in fact the camera was'nt even on our side of the road it was for the opposite traffic.

I have no problem with the red light camera if they nail people on yellowhead or where ever else their are advance warnings that the lights changing but not on every insection.

As far as I know, they are only for problem intersections. And there is a camera for both directions at 91st and 34th.
