Vtec in reverse? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Yet another stupid thought that crossed my mind.. wonder if you can hit vtec in reverse?

95IntegraRS
Hm... good question, never tried. I know that you can hit boost in reverse because Wookey always used to throw blow offs when he was backing up. I am going to find the answer to this question though, one way or another.

Ok let me know when if in the summer i will video tape.. or provide us with a video clip

Qoo
I think the speed (gear) limit for reverse is like 60-70.
so the rpm shoulda reach vtec.
but will it activate?:dunno:

S2000_rider
I've actually tried this in the snow just to see but really wasn't paying attention to see if I could feel it kick in. Got it to about 7500Rpm before I let off....fun as hell doing donuts in reverse!

silverTEG
why would'nt it? the motor or ecu dont know your driving backwards, vtec is engaged at a certain RPM so the only thing to know your in reverse is the lights, the tranny and you.....

scooby_dooby
it's possible that they could've put something in the ECU to not flip VTEC when reverse is engaged.

if the light comes on than the ECU could potentially know you're in reverse. I doubt they would bother doing that though, no normal person is going to hit VTEC i reverse.

SketchifisT
i dunno, i roared in reverse one time when i was tryin to get a parkin spot last christmas at a mall. i was up to 55km/hr ish, i didn't feel vtec hit but it did, but i didn't really get the feel of vtec. I think it has to do more so with how its geared then anything else...

scooby_dooby
i bet that VTEC doesn't come on under a certain speed.

DO you guys hit it in 1st? 1st and reverse are pretty close ratio's

SketchifisT
well first i hit vtec and i gotta shift at like 55-60 , and since its so close you know theres vtec but if you dont really roll into it, vtec comes and goes pretty quick.

I dunno if i get a chance tonite ima test it, like i said i figured ive hit vtec but its hard to say...

Soulfly
When you hit Vtec In reverse.. Your rear wheels Lift off the ground!!

LOL!

And BTW guys.. It works off of Oil pressure.. not speed...
and You'll get oil pressure at about 3000 rpm and vtec enguages at 4500-5200 rpm.. depending on the model of head..

You can actually Rev up your engine and have the vtec kick in.. I saw some dufus do it before... Was Prolly some Idiot named 'Soulflower' or something like that..

i have to go out in an hour or so....i have to reverse out of my little crescent thing so i'll let you know when i get back

How VTEC works...may just answer your question about operating speed.

SketchifisT
I know how vtec works, but we were talkin about speed not rpms with being in reverse. Need to be able to have the ability to be at the speed / rpm for anything else to kick in .

In all my knowledge i hit vtec leavin the parkin lot , was it fun no , but i did a huge ebrake slide and did a burnout so that was fun. Ohh the joy of snow in BC :D

droppedatbirth
i couldnt get going fast enough. vtec in my car kicks in at 4500 i do believe and i couldn't get it up there...plus the reverse whistle shit is fucking annoying

SketchifisT
yeah vtec in reverse = pointless but it is possible ;)

Nightstalker
No, its actually not possiable. Your car has to be going 20km/h for vtec to kick in guys.. I can't belive someone didn't say something. The ecu does not engage the solinoid unless its up to that speed.

SketchifisT
You can go 20km in reverse you can go quite over that...... I asume i hit v-tec because im up in the rpm and speed range for it. From what i have felt tonite and other nights, besides the gross noise in the tranny it feels like i get some vtec pop, but im never in it beyond 3-4 seconds in reverse i never know but i have accelerated pretty quick in reverse before.

either way i dont care but meh, im pretty sure you can, if not then whatever its not like i use my reverse in a race... but you never know christmas season is nearin and parkin lots suck :)

To clarify things:

I have a Buddyclub VCON. When I hit VTEC, the bright green light turns bright RED. Just the other day, I floored in reverse, and low and behold, it turned red. If you can bring the car up to 5000 RPMS or whatever your VTEC kicks in at, then you WILL hit VTEC in reverse.

And your Back Tires.. WILL lift off the ground!!!

and I don't know what Nightstalker is talking about... Cause as soon as you get your RPM's to the vtec Enguagement point... and It has its oil pressure.. It Kicks in...
