SEARCH the Traffic Safety Act and the Vehicle & Equipment Regs.
In Alberta, nothing is legal on the driver's and passenger's front door windows. |

| u can usually get away with the lightest tint as most newer vehcles has this percent of tint already, but technically its all illegal, but since u live in Athabasca, I'm sure u could get awy with pretty much anything( I used to live there, got out, as fast as possible lol) |

heh Do ya know dave? with the black ram? his side windows used to be tinted limo..... key word... used to be.
Anything behind the driver is fair game, but front 3 must be untinted, rear window can be tinted if you have both door mirror, if not, it can't be. |

| If I remember correctly its 35% on your front side windows as long as it isn't film, they will have to be smoked. The film is what makes tint illegal, side windows are designed to shatter and the film holds it together in an accident, making it like a guillotine in the worst possible scenario. Cops in the town I'm in pulled me over and checked to see if I had "clear" tint. Clear tint? Whats the friggin point!?!?! |

Will you stop spreading BULLSHIT as to why it is illegal to tint your front windows. There is no safety issue involved for accidents. If this was the case all provinces in Canada would ban tiniting film, and it would be made into a federal vehicle regulation. Also it would be illegal to use tint on the windows on the back doors. Just as much a safety issue. Before you go talking out of your ass, do some research. It is illegal, because someone or group lobbied that it be made illegal. |

Here it's just plain illegal to have your side windows and windshield tinted...
I'd love to tint the bottom 4"-6" of my windshield though... I get nasty glare off my hood, and the bottom 8" all I see is hood so it wouldn't affect my vision at all.
If you have 2 side mirrors you can paint your rear 3 windows black if you want, but if you only have 1 side and a rear view.. It might be illegal to tint the rear at all(Not sure though) |

I remember hearing something about this... I think I heard the answer was wear sun glasses. I can't, sun glasses give me a migrane. Direct sun I can block with a visor, hat, etc, etc most of the time, it's trying to block the direct sun and the glare off my hood thats nasty. |

Light sensitivity is not an excuse for illegal tint, as far as I know.

Thats what I mean... I think the answer was sun glasses. I wanna find out if what i want to do it legal or not... cause it wouldn't affect line of sight at all for seeing the road. |

| I was told the back 3 windows can be blacked out. Nothing with the front 3 is legal. A police officer told me that while giving me a fine for the front 2. |

actually it was my specialist that had mentioned this to me because i suffer from a perticular condition, that is somewhat rare in younger genorations, and i'm almost positive he was speaking form experince. the way he worded it, he sounded like he had written letters of behalf of paticents before.
but like i said i'm currently looking into this issue. |

nope, you arn't allowed any tint on the driver and passenger side windows. the only tint that is allowed on the front side windows is when it came that way from the factory (but not from a dealer who had tint installed after they received the car from the factory, this is still illegal).
my factory glass comes with a tint that blocks UV rays and like 5 or 8% of the light, but you can't even tell it's tinted. |

| i remember reading a post a while ago stating that 50% tint is legal as of lately :dunno: |

Shall I quote the vehicle regs?
quote:
Window glazing
69(1) A person shall not install, replace or cover the window glazing in a windshield or in a left or right side window of a motor vehicle that is beside or forward of the driver with a transparent, translucent or opaque material.
(2) A person shall not install, replace or cover the rear window glazing in a motor vehicle with a transparent, translucent or opaque material unless the motor vehicle has outside rear view mirrors on both the left and right that comply with section 72(2).
(3) A person shall not install, replace or cover the window glazing in a motor vehicle with a material that reflects the headlamps of approaching vehicles into the eyes of the driver of another vehicle.
(4) A person shall not install, replace or cover the window glazing in a motor vehicle with a material that reflects sunlight into the eyes of the driver of another vehicle.
(5) A person may replace the window glazing installed by the manufacturer of a motor vehicle with the same type of glazing.
(6) A person may apply clear untinted frost shields to a window of a motor vehicle only if they do not impair the view through the window by discolouring, scratching or damaging the glazing.
(7) A person may apply stickers to the window of a motor vehicle only if they do not limit the driver’s field of vision or otherwise impair the safe operation of the motor vehicle.
Soo basically clear protectant film isn't even allowed on the front 3....
Anything behind the driver is fair game, even black paint as long as you have out side rear view mirrors - as per subsection 2. Now if one of your mirrors gets busted, you have to replace it asap or untint the rear windshield. |
