| this is kinda hard to explain, but when i filled up my tank today, it clicked, so i put in another $0.25 to get it up to the next dollar mark. after i pulled out the nozzle, i saw something spill from underneath the bumper. what happened there and does your car do that? |

| my old car used to leak out a bit of fuel after it was filled completely up. well i was at least told by the guy doing my clutch that it did.....:D |

| the pipe leading to your fuel tank or some where on the fuel tank it self could be rusted. or damaged would be my guess it happen to me on my last car |

| its a 2003 bmw, there shouldnt be any rust at all. snow wouldnt melt that fast. another guy told me that i hit the overflow. weird how it would overflow and spill behind everything else though |

| yea it shouldnt be rusted, and i never heard of a over flow b4. my guess you should just take a close look underneath, or jsut keep a eye on it |

Well did it smell like fuel?? and most time if you overfill its goin to come out and drip on your paint which blows nuts...
im going with it wasn't fuel because itsnot going to just randomly get release under your bumper. This being said i dont know if BMW has a system and shoots excess fuel out behind its bumper but ima go with a no... |

i didnt really smell it at all. just looked really obvious what it was at the time. i figured it would have dripped out through the filler neck and all. |

| In mine, if you dont stop at the first click of the pump, any tiny amount over that first click will start to overflow. |

where does it overflow from, the fuel filler place or behind the bumper? weird how mind got out from behind the bumper. wondering what would happen in the event of a roll over.... |

In mine it start to overflow out of the fuel filler place, if its coming out behind the bumper you should check if there is any wear, rust, dents, etc.
Actually Im kinda wondering if maybe BMW has something like stated above that will route the fuel to the ground instead of running down the side of the paint. |

thats what i was trying to figure out, cause i clicked maybe 0.15L in so itll fill up the filler neck, and i took out the nozzle and then i heard it go down behind the bumper. i looked and said to myself, why doesnt it come out the filler place...
although routing it to the ground will save the paint, its kinds scary how they just let it spill like that. |

Check your filler neck gasket. May be warped due to sudden change in temperature.
Going to have to drop the tank to replace it. But the gasket itself is cheap.

Like I said in your other thread, it is supposed to do that. That way the fuel isn't running down your paint like so many other cars on the road.
And like I mentioned, I have found on this car more than any other I have owned, that when the pump stops, you can't put much more in. |

| ya theres a drain so that fuel wont just sit there when u over fill it.....its supposed to do that....otherwise the gas would sit there and either spill onto your paint or start rusting the area....those car manufacturers are smarter than they seem sometimes!!! |

| I guy I know had a truck that had a ball valve that if you ried to fill it passed when it pops(in to the filler tube) it would just start dumping on the ground... pretty much on your feet. |

| If you overfill my car, it has a drain that lets the gas out behind the fender, ive seen it on many cars, its perfectly normal. |

exactly.......its supposed to flow out underneath and not down the side of your car and onto the paint.
