83 RX-7 - Click HERE for Original Thread

I need some help with a problem that hopefully your group can help me out with. I've been offered 2 1983 RX-7's. One is an RX-7 GX the other just an RX-7. Now, the problem with them is right behind the back wheels. On both inside sides is rust holes. The damage is through the frame on both sides. My question is can they be repaired, or do you know where I can find frames to replace them, or should I scrap the deal? The person selling them to me is asking only $300 for both and I like the look plus, I really don't mind putting the time and money into it well within reason. :(

Anything can be fixed for $$$$. You'll have to talk to a body shop, or maybe some of the guys here can tell ya what to do. For $300.00 for two, if they're in excellent shape otherwise, why not!? How are the rest of the bodys... the floorpans, 1/4 panels. Have you seen underneath the cars the make sure they're not rusted through. Do they even run for that price? Is the vinyl interior not cracked along with the dashes?! EDMRX7 and 4KRUZEN head up the rx7 club and they can tell you what you need to know about these cars, although i'm not sure about body work.

Hmmm, if it's through the frame, I'd be a little iffy about them, offer something less that $3000 and maybe there's a deal in there.

To fix the frame rust?, cut out the offending parts and weld in new metal?...

How deep or how far does the rust go?.

 I had this happen on my 7 when I had it and it got to the point where the car started to crack at the seam under the storage bins. 3 days of work with some sheet metal, a welder, long-strand fibreglass, and some seam sealer and I had managed to fix it. Depending on how bad the cars are keep in mind that if you pay someone to fix it it'll cost big $$$. The other thing to consider is that on those cars the rear suspension mounts tend to rust as well. I had to fix these too because my upper 4-link bars were ready to come loose. Again, if you were to pay someone to fix it it'll cost you! It's up to you whether you want to take on a project like this!

typically as a rule of thumb, buy the best car your budget can afford and in the end you will have the nicest car. you should be able to find a low or even rust free 83-85 for less than two g's and buy the time a body shop fixes up one of the ones you dicrbed it will cost you more than that and you still have a car that was rusty and will rust out sooner. call me I have a lead on a 85 with leather int. very little to no rust and a 13b, header and exhaust you could buy for a round 2500/3000 just a thought. also i know of a 85 you caould go look at it is silver with leather int , two year old paint for under 2000. good luck on your search, we also have a couple of second gens. thanks conroy 922-6708

buy them as parts cars, then buy a non rusted car as 4kruzin has suggested.

Am I reading this correctly? Two rx-7's for $300? Like three hundred dollars? Like the cost of an Xbox $300? or is this just a typo for $3000?

:o
