i am looking into buying a 87 N/A Supra 3.0L ... the body is in immaculate condition but i am alittle worried about the engine... it has about 280,000kms on it....
the body is and interior is in like brand new and all original state, has new tires, and just needs new brake pads and the heater fixed...
how long do these engines generally last??? is it worth buying at all??? if so what would be the most you guys would pay for a supra like this??? |

| Sounds like a good find. I can appreciate your concern over the motor but most times those problems are easier to address than a bad body. And as far as that goes, the engine possibly beeing bad is just a good excuse to do a turbo swap anyway!!:D As far as price, if the motor is bad then around 2000 should be max. If the motor is ok but a little tired than between 2 and 4000 would be reasonable i would think keeping in mind it is a N/A and assuming there is no real hidden rust. There are quite a few of us who are active in the club who enjoy working on our cars so im sure you wont be lacking for any help or advice. Good luck with the buy! |

great cause i had heard from someone i know who has a supra (his engine went 175k but he bagged the shit out of it) and he was saying the engine will go anytime...
the engine seemed to run okay in the test drive and idoled good, and sounded normal... soo i'm hoping :)....
yah i offered the guy $2000 for it and he accepted the offer, i just wanted to make sure i wasnt goin to over pay for a car that the engine will go very soon
(dont really have the money to get a rebuild or swap right now... but i thought it would be pretty sweet throwing a 2.0 twin turbo 1ggte in er :D  ) |

Well for 2000 i think its a great buy!! Like any car, motors can last a long time with proper maintanance and that have not been abused. Being that it is not a turbo you may be in luck with that and still get alot of good years out of it. Welcome to the club

No worries, my car is running a 7mgte with 315000km and no worries really, just a little bit of sweating on seals.

Heater fan is easy. You just need to know what is broken. Is it the regulator that controls the fan or the fan itself.
Post up the symptoms. Does the fan work at all?
I replaced both my fan and the regulator at the same time...just safer that way not it will work for years without worry.
Here is a link for the fan motor http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/libra...420/8712_1.html this is just behind glove box.
Part number 87138 is the fan speed regulator and of coarse 87104 is the fan motor.
Good luck! |

Parts cars on forums are the cheapest.
I'd try Sun Toyota too.
On the topic, our club totally needs to chip together to buy a MK III parts car. There are so many different parts that people need!
Good luck with the problem, if you need help fixing it, give me a shout sometime. But not till after my exams!
Cheers,
Tim |

PM me if you want cause I have replaced all this before and it would be no problem to give you a hand...no heat is the worst thing to not have this time of year...heat and windows stuck open would be better....
