satellite radio - Click HERE for Original Thread

Now that the stores are stocking both XM and Sirrius radio, anyone here try it out yet? If so, what's the coverage and content like? I talked to the guy at A&B sound about it, but he didn't know much.

rant---I just HAVE to get away from local edmonton radio that sucks absolute ass. Like the old song said, "... the same 5 fuckin songs 15 times a day for 3 months. Fuck dat!" And if it's anywhere near drive time, you can scan the entire dial and get nothing but commercials. Pisses me right off.---rant

So, yeah, what's up with satellite radio?

i ve had xm for almost 3 yrs i like it ...except lately there are more commercials.... there is lots of content depending on what you like

Tech2
3 years? Man, I didn't know it's been out that long. You say there are lots of commercials? Like how many minutes per hour? The whole reason for me to switch is to get away from the commercials and endless blather of silly-ass radio DJs.

I thought the whole thing was that it is comercial free? Does it depend on what kind of station your listening to? Like talk radio or sports? Cuz if there are comercials I'm not paying 15 bucks a month to hear them. I almost picked one up at Future Shop but I didn't like any of the units they had. Does anybody know if every store that carries this have the same four units or do I have a chance of finding one I might like if I go to a different store?

i thought the big deal with satellite radio was that there were to be no commercials needed since they have income from the subscriptions!!!! maybe they just said that to suck us in then lay on the moneymakers. that would have been the only reason that I would pay for it, so that I could be FREE FROM COMMERDIALS. I guess Bearshare will forever be my only true friend...

I like Sirius better than XM... I listened to both while truckin this summer. Maxim Radio and Faction kick ass on Sirius. Be warned though, some stations still have commercials (Maxim does). American entertainment is just hands down better, doesn't matter if its DirecTV or radio or whatever, in my opinion.

The coverage is great, except you get interference if there's major buildings/etc to the south. But I take it that they are selling it legit in Canada now, that there are dedicated Canadian satellites? What happened to the Canadian Content rule from the CRTC?

So you mean you had no troubles when going between cities?

I have had XM for about a year now, reception is pretty good actually, sound is super clear etc..etc...

For the younger crowd however I would suggest Sirius radio, the stations are more suited towards today's generation where as XM has a lot of older type stuff that I find to get annoying...to be honest I only listen to a few stations on XM (the commedy stations (2 I believe) Squizz which is your hard rock/alternative station and then top 20 on 20 (which gets tired real fast)

If you want a nice Sirius unit check out Certified and see their Clarion units, real nice:blue:

So then there are different units then the four that Future Shop sells? I was looking at getting XM but mostly because I didn't like the units Sirius had. So which one would be better if a guy likes rap and hip hop? I don't want to pay to listen to classics from the 60 or stuff like that.

Yes, Opie and Anthony do rule. It's the Terry, Bill and Steve show to the extreme.

I am a Trucker, and just bought a Canadian sub. I Went with XM because they have the 6 dedicated NHL channels, and when NHL goes exclusive I won't have to switch.

Plus the trucker channel is a bonus. I love hearing all the old trucker stories.

Tech2
Are there some/lots/any commercials on these stations?

Stainless
I haven't noticed much. On the O&A replays there has been an ad for bodog.net and some steakhouse, and there are ads during hockey games, but those ads are from the station that it is streamed from (like what you would hear on CHED)

Stainless
And there are ads for other shows on XM, which I like, because it lest me know what else is going on. These ads are maybe 10 seconds long.
