did you read the line 'im just curious'? i park too far away from people, so i wont get door dings easily, but its the guy at walmart parking lot which scared me. he went by there sliding and everything and almost hit a few cars while he was at it

inglewood
i got rear-ended in the old tunnel they had going to downtown on 109St (i think) which has now been replaced by a 6 lane road...anyways, the guy took off as soon as we got out of the tunnel...

insurance company paid for the damage to the vehicle cuz i had collision, and they didn't assess any increase in my premium because i had filed a police report and everything, and my story seemed believable...

Yes, but in a different way.

A collision that's attributed to you is paid out through the collision component of your insurance (if you have it). Third-party damage to your car by a hit 'n run comes from the comprehensive component of your insurance (if you have it). If all you have is PL/PD, you're screwed either way.

As to the Victims of Crime fund, that has long since been abolished, and furthermore, it was only for out of province drivers involved in collisions in Alberta...not for residents.

I was in a hit and run last year....guy side swiped me and took off. I called 911 but he ran a red light and I lost him. I went to file a police report then called my insurance company and they said I would have to pay for the repairs since I didn't have collision! I have comprehensive aswell!

Your car was in motion, with you driving it...hence it was a collision. If it was parked and damage occured, it would be comprehensive. Big difference.

ahh well you didn't say that....it makes sense now!

hows this for a scenario change, your stopped at a red light, and somebody sideswipes you. he runs and loses you and you forgot to take down his plate. would comprehensive cover that then?

SilverNeonRacer
I was run off the road and hit a curb, the comp part of my ins covered it, not collision

Comprehensive coverage
Comprehensive coverage protects your car against loss or damage other than the collision coverage. This would include falling or flying objects, missiles, vandalism and theft.

Hit and Run is generally covered under the collision aspect of your policy.

wubba_65
Only if you are in the car. If it is parked, they would classify it as vandalism, and therefore be covered under comprehensive.

Really?

I thought that it is still classified as hit and run - because it fits the definition (As it's still a collision) of hit and run not vandelism.
