Did he Blow it? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Warning hypothetical questions afoot.

Did he blow it? your probably thinking blow what? who? These are all good questions, but the wrong ones.

This post is loosley based on a man that I know, you answer my questions and post your opinions below.

1. Why would a guy purchase a motor for a car that is supposedley running fine? :loco:

2. Why would a guy purchase pistons for a motor he just purchcased, for a car that is running fine? :loco:

3. Why would a guy be mistaken 35% of the time about what boost level he runs at, and what octane level he is running, at any given time? :dunno:

4. Why would a guy who is supposed to be an authority on automotive tuneing, continue to misread people and give lackluster advice at best? :loco:

5. Did he blow it, the motor, that is?

Again folks this is all just hypothetical, no man such as this really excists. Lets face if he did he would be a true dumbass, or at least compensating for something.

Cheers,

Grace Too

Interesting post. Since this is in the Z Club forum, and not the general forum, I have to assume you are talking about a Z. (edit: nevermind, I see that you've posted this same question in another Z forum and specifically mention Z's.)

Is this to do with someone in the club?

Care to elaborate further?

joker
1-To do a built motor without having down time

2-To do a built motor

3-Do you seriously expect an answer? If you really want it fine, how the hell would I know why? How about some examples?

4-Once again how the hell would I or anyone else know why? Once again how about some examples.

5-Doubt it

Dumbass? I would call it enthusiast myself, building a motor for some big power while still being able to drive his Z, yeah thats stupid.
Compensating for what exactly?

No kidding.

How would you know what this person's boost and octane is or isn't, let alone how would you know that HE doesn't know what he's running (assuming the guy doesn't know 35% of the time, hypothetically)? Have you rigged this guy's car to pull remote datalogging of his boost controller some how? Are you syphoning his gas and running it down to a lab to test his octane? :dunno:

Hi Grace Too

Very interesting question that you have proposed. There is not enough background detail to provide accurate assesments.

I will do the best that I can to answer them.

1. Why would a guy purchase a motor for a car that is supposedley running fine? :loco:

Answer: A) My best guess is that this person is wanting to build up a motor completely do what needs to be done, then replace the existing motor with it.

B) Perhaps this person wants to have a spare motor kicking around for parts or in the event they blow up the existing motor.

C) Perhaps this person has already blown up the existing motor and is bluffing about it running fine.

2. Why would a guy purchase pistons for a motor he just purchcased, for a car that is running fine? :loco:

Answer: See Response's A,B,C, for question 1.

3. Why would a guy be mistaken 35% of the time about what boost level he runs at, and what octane level he is running, at any given time? :dunno:

Answer: A) How does this person know that they are mistaken 35% of the time with out tests to prove or back it up.

B) Perhpaps it is time to install a boost controller and boost guage.

C) Perhaps the gauge is faulty, there are leaks in the vacume line system, turbo is on its way out. The waste gate could be dirty or sticking. Again too many variables. With Boost controllers you are never going to get a certain PSI all the time. Even with the best of the controllers you are never going to eliminate all boost spikes.

D) For the fuel, perhaps there may be water in the fuel lines. Perhaps the last person that filled up at the pump pumped in regular fuel, when one goes to fill with premium they will get a hose length of regular mixed with their premium. Perhaps the manufacturing process may have been changed slightly producing lower octane results that quoted. How does this person know the octane ratings are consistant or off?

4. Why would a guy who is supposed to be an authority on automotive tuneing, continue to misread people and give lackluster advice at best? :loco:

Answer: A) My best guess is this person is letting personal preference get in the way of their judgement.

B) I would think that there are not enough questions asked by this person to make an accurate assesment on the tuning needs.

C) Perhaps this person thinks that they are a tuning authority, but really knows nothing or lacks the actual hands on work and testing to back up statements. Anyone can read a website and a preformance mag and spew off numbers. But have they installed and tested these products them selves or let someone else do the work and they purchase the products.

5. Did he blow it, the motor, that is?

Answer: A) Not enough information provided to answer this question. Is this question based on questions 1,2, and 3? Is this question based on information that has not been revealed?
