Hey,
I am looking at buying a STI summer 06'. I am pretty psyched out about it. Previously I had an 04' RSX Type-S.
I am just curious if any of you have driven a STI and what your thoughts/opinnions are. I have only driven a WRX.... no dealerships have the STI in stock, and told me I would have to order one before I could test drive. How much sense does that make? Spending $50k before u even drive the car.... heh
Regardless, after driving a stock WRX, I am almost sure the STI is what I want.
Post below. Thanks. |

| The STi...lets just say it's everything the WRX is, just 1000X better, sticks to the road like glue, and pulls like crazy from the get go! |

They don't let you test drive it cuz guess what kind of people with no intention of purchasing the car want to come test drive a 300hp 300lbs of torque car? The kind of people that bag the shit out of it before it's even been broken in yet. Those kind of people ruin it for everyone else so I can't blame the dealerships for not wanting to let people test drive an STi unless they are definately purchasing one.
The STi will blow away your experience in a WRX. The STi has the turbo lag to an absolute minimum, the car sits about 1" lower and the suspension is stiffer. You get to change how you want to split the torque from front and rear. You get HID's in the Canadian models now too. And those BBS rims, lightweight, good looking and strong.
Make sure you get an insurance quote for the STi. It was unreasonably high for me. That alone was the reason why I had to settle for a WRX for now. |

ok...I used to own a 2002 wrx modified. Now I am currently driving a 2006 WRX.
I have also driven a few STI from stock to highly modified.
The comparison from the STI to the 2002-2005 WRX is like night and day. The STI is so much more.
BUT with all the upgrades to the 2006 WRX the gap has been shrunk quite abit.
I was actually looking to get an STI....but for the driving I do (I work out of town) the new WRX was a way better fit.
The new 2.5 in the WRX gets way better gas mileage then the STI, the STI is a very loud car inside and rides really rough. I know alot of people that bought STI's dont like them as a daily driver for these reason.
The bigger brakes on the new WRX have incredible stopping power compared to the old ones and alot of the suspension parts have been upgraded as well.
The new 2.5 in the WRX stock is almost as fast as my 02 was done up....so it has huge potential. Stock it was rated at 235hp230tq but guys are getting them dynoed and they are coming out at 250hp/270tq. With the same parts as on my 02 wrx my 06 will be pushine 300hp/350tq as compared to my 02 at 290hp/295tq. And thats for only a couple grand in mods.
Having said this dont get me wrong.....I love the STI and when Im not working out of town and driving on the highway all the time I will get one.
But for now the new WRX impressed me with all the new features for well over 10 grand less.
Test drive the 05 wrx....the 06 wrx and the STI and you can make your own comparison.
check out www.nasioc.com its the online suby forum. There are lots of meets and if you come to one I know you would easily be able to get a ride in an STI to check it out. |
