| My moms car was just stolen RIGHT IN FRONT OF US. a native male was seen getting into my moms car and my brother walked outside to have a chat with him but by the time he got outside it was already started and gone. took him less then 20 seconds to start it. its an old POS cressida but thats not the point.. our lights were on out front and even our front door was open.. pretty friggin hurting. I hope he crashes and gets paralysed for life. |

trust me hes very lucky because he looked maybe 5'10 100lbs if hes lucky. my brother is about 5'11 245. he was sitting watching tv and heard a door open so he looked out the window and saw him in the car so he sat up and bolted out the door and the guy got it started just as he stepped out the door and he peeled away.
also i mistaken my moms car i forgot she just recently purchased a 91 New Yorker. Im just very glad i was out playing poker tonite because if that was my car thered be murder.
cops said nothign just asked where and when. and said not to expect anything... the bad thing is my mom isnt very wealthy and she didnt have theft on it so shes pretty upset.. im hoping it was just a cracky (very common where i live) stole it for a warm place to shoot and leaves it somewhere in the open. |

| you cant profit off a car like that... anyways i misinterpreted what the police said.. they have them on camera from Kingsway mall they know who stole it and they also are looking for the truck which he got into after ditching the car, they have the trucks plate number.. so good more then one should go down for this |

| The municipal level of government is just as responsible, sure they don't have the power of the federal judiciary, but it's the local government that appropriates funds for shelters, re-education, drug addiction programs, etc. Tougher laws wouldn't make a difference imho because you still see murders in states with the death penalty... These people that make a career of this kind of life wouldn't be phased. |

Sorry, but the problem isn't the municipal government. |

judging from the post times, im surprised they found the car in 32 minutes. that incident makes me wanna park my car in my garage, and my accord in storage.
how badly was the car damaged anyways? |

| he just popped the column off and used a screw driver.. i brought one with me when i went to pick up the car so i didnt have to have it towed =D |

| its pretty sad when a screwdriver is all thats needed to steal a car... |
|
|
| 92_WhItE_H23 |
thats all you need to steal pretty much anycar..once you break off the lock which the key turns all you gotta do is turn the ignition with a screwdriver..
this leads me to a question tho.. i have compustar on my 5th gen lude as well they come stock with the ignition kill or whatever..you gotta have a chipped key. can they still just pop the column off and start it or are they going to have to be smarter then that with both the anti theft systems? |

i think you still need the key cause from what i read, the ECU wont let the car start unless the key sends a signal to it. not completely sure if thats the way it works, but its something along those lines.
chances are if they somehow bypassed the OEM immobilizer, they would have to deal with the compustar one as well. but to get past the OEM one is close to impossible with the key(or so im told by the insurance company) |

bums created their own problem by not getting off their lazy asses and finding a job. they see it as they can just live off of what other people make and if it doesnt go well for them, then they screw up other peoples lives to benefit on their own. the EPS is doing a somewhat alright job, maybe we just dont see it that way |

No, you can't just pop the column and start a car with anti-theft. That is the whole idea behind a chip in the key. My Pontiac key for example, has a resistor that reads back a specific ohmnage (sp?) that is matched to the ECU and won't give power to the ignition if it doesn't match. I've cut a copy of the key to try it, and the copy key will turn the ignition, but nothing happens. The 'Security' light comes on, and power works to other accessories, but the starter will not even turn. Even jumping the ignition wires where they come out of the column doesn't matter. Without the proper indication from the key (or an emulator to fool it into thinking it is), it will not provide power to the starter (or the ignition).
This is not to say that an anti-theft system is not possible to bypass by any means, but you're not likely to do it with merely a screwdriver. |
