Hi
I am interested in rallycross right now. I got spanked at the last gravel rallycross I went to. Ive done well in all of my street autox's(top 1/4 finishing atleast) and i know how to make use of weight transfering, etc so I think I am an advanced driver for my age.
But to the point... everyone raves on about how FWD aint so bad in rally since the brakes can be used to slide the rear out, etc. But my car does not have rear brakes, only drums. What techniques am I to employ?
Thanks! |

| Pretty much the same IMO only less hard rear braking. |

| The e-brake works the same way. The only difference between discs and drums is the way they are designed, not how they function. |

| try using your left foot to brake through corners while staying on the accleorator, i'm not sure but you could look into a brake biest( not spelled right) controller and make your rear lock faster. |

| yeah a brake bias controller to put alot of your braking power to the rear if that is what you want ..... or else use the ebrake for only rear braking while still on the gas |

Not sure if u guys know this but braking and ebraking arent the same. Ebraking in a FF in rallying does not cause the weight to transfer to the front like normal braking(with rear discs) does. While using the accelerator and left foot braking causes the weight to transfer forward initating a slide and helping it turn....Same thing with an ebrake may get a slide iniated but u could keep going the same direction!
Thanks for the tip on the brake bias but does that work if you dont have discs but drums in the rear? |

with FWD the best way around the corner is stayin on the power however this causes a problem which is called Understeer. To compensate this you use the left foot to brake while still on the gas. The thing to learn here though is you dont Throttle down on the brake you want to gentley ingage it barely so it stops your understeer but still allows the tires to pull you through.
Once you have mastered this .. you can start to toss the ebrake in to kick the back out... this being said if you stiffen up the rear with a rear sway bar ( going to need to brace this to the frame probably otherwise it will just rip apart the ones that are there ) The back end if stiffened up enough will kick on its own and you will be fine.
Problem with ebrakin is it does not eliminate the understeer because FF the front wheels are doin anything just cause the rear stop doin something it doesn't mean it goin to change what the front is doin. Leave the ebrake alone to start. it will help you once you have learned the left foot brakin technique and then just go from there. |

| If you want the back to come around start your turn at full throttle then just take your foot off the gas and the rear will pop out on you, then go right back in to the gas and point where you want to go.. |

the only time i ever use the e brake:
1 the corner is so sharp that you cant make the turn
2 i am late on a gate so i use it to re position the car quickly
the slowest way around a gate would be using the e brake to make the turn. my car has drums in the back...
If you want to be fast in rally x it all in the set up, you set up each turn before you get there and you will be fast.
What do i know?
Well i am the ERC rally x champion. |

Hey man i like supras too especially the mk3. my bud has a turbo mk3 with metal headgasket, etc u know the deal.
The echo seems like an ideal rallyx car but its an even better autox car. Kumho 711 tires, and stock suspension have gotten me really far. |
