smog hogs are coming in 2004 - Click HERE for Original Thread

I have reason to believe that within the next 12 months , klein is bringing in new laws that will bring back the smog stations to alberta . We should be looking to see if we can get together with different car clubs to see if we can have some input on how this will be set up,and how this may affect us.theres a lot of cars in alberta and that equals to lots of votes when it comes to elections. Its a lot easier of make sugestions now before any new laws are made, because then its to late.In some US. states you just have to pass smog test (they dont care how you do it)but in other states you have to put the car back to original specs. even thou you could of passed. There is no doubt in my mind that this will happen. We must not bury our heads in the sand on this issue.or it will come back to haunt us. :wtf:

Damn, let's squash this MF-er before it gets out of hand!

are we talking something similar to the "AirCare" system B.C has set-up with strict emissions standards and vehicles having to pass the test every year or 5 yrs. or something? :( That's gonna KILL the performance on a lotta vehicles our smog isn't THAT bad, we're not in a valley, we're not on the coast and our air isn't really humid.... just another fuc*ing cash cow for the gov't :thefinger:

I think it's fine as long as all engines, original or not to that chassis are allowed to pass. If it will pass the test it should be allowed.

*nod*
but i dont want to be paying to be tested

they want to "help the air", then they can pay

mrprecidia
passing is going to be a bitch for me no egr no cat

ChromeDragon
If it's once every five years, even once a year, just cut a section in your exhaust and weld in a section of like 5 cat's. Sure it will run like shit until you cut it out, but it will pass!

I have no EGR or cat either :whacko:

Haha If I weld in 5 cat's it'll take days of driving at full throttle to heat them all up to operating temp :D

No EGR is simple to solve on SR20DET. One 3" cat will suffice for most turbo cars. Play with engine management a bit and no problem to meet regs.

Whats that?

What are you do do, yeah, i cut my exhaust out to put 3 inch pipe, and no cats as well. So im supposed to take all that out and run cats again, i think not. Ill keep a spare exhaust just for thier testing, and unbolt it after i pass, hehehe that will show them.

No my truck was made to be omiited from emmsions per us laws, in 1978 there was no cats or any somg restrictions on 1/2 ton or higher trucks, thus why my truck was the fastest vehicle of the year...Then the government cracked down and found out so the 79 got smooged with cats and the pump..

I have 2 mufflers and thats how it is staying..

I have 3 inches of straight pipe with no cats or muffler right now... Although I may add a muffler just to kill the sound a little (haven't decided)... guess I'm pooched on smog testing.... although it is an 84 and I've heard older cars don't get tested?! Am I right or wrong on this?

No they get CRUSHED!!!! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Pro Drag
I would not be adverse to smog testing as long as it is testing by #'s, and no visual inspection.

In other words, if the vehicle meets emissions levels, it doesn't matter if there is no "cat" or "egr", it still passes.

When they had a mock emissions testing (By Environment Canada or some tree-hugger group) I took my Z28 (87) down - headers, no cats, no emissions, and carb'ed.

And they said I passed. So if your car can't pass while my carb'ed car with 0 emissions equipment can, there's a serious problem.

And yes - they did have different results for different years, the same numbers did NOT apply to every year.

this would suck....

its bad enough government forces leglisation on the public, but to limit what we can do to our personal possesions is even worse.

The reason I bought my first DSM back in BC was because the Gov't didn't put in AWD dyno's so all you had to do was show up say your AWD and they would look under the car for a cat and let you go with a pass.

You have to put the engine under load to do the test or its no good.

Just hope Klien doesn't spend the extra on AWD dyno and if he does you can easily pass if your good with a standalone and wide band.

What would be awsome was if he put them and rented them out at night for car freaks to use. If these stations are privatized I bet this will happen.

Its all good , there are plenty of import HP cars in BC.

I know the AirCare system out here, you need to check your car every 2 years, unless it is in a diff class, or too low (as the Accord was) then you need to check it every year. it costs 28 bucks a year to do it, and a lot of modded cars do not pass. :(

redbaron303
So here's the question... what happens (honestly) if the car doesn't pass the inspection?

What do you need to pass the inspection, I probably read over this here, but it didn't click.... To get a pass, what do you have to have or how to you qualify?!

GirlRacer P1
I know out here they give you 3 months to fix the problem at a shop that is AirCare certified. If you do not pass after that, you cannot get insurance. All ICBC and private insurance companies ask for your AirCare forms.
