Hello Jim, I have a question for you. I recently heard from a friend that the red light cameras are soon going to be outfitted with photo radar so it can monitor if you speed up to go through an amber light and eventually all intersections with cameras will also be equipped with photo radar. Is my friend lying to me?
Thanks |

and why not? throw unmanned photo radar up and they will make that back 3 times over in the first day.

| The camera's are already equipped to measure speed. It would take some minor mods to make them issue tickets to speeders. |

Currently city legislation has it so that only manned vehicles can take photo radar. I am sure the red light cameras will soon do it.
More locations (Actually they are popping up all over):

Calgary Trail South and 23rd ave
Jasper Ave West and 109th st
Sherwood Park: Wye Road West on Sherwood Drive & by McDicks

There have been a few 'pilot' programs where the red light cameras are also monitoring speed.
The camera on 75st and 98ave is one.. They had a sign stating that the pilot program was running for a week. It took pics of speeders and I don't know if a warning was mailed or if they just kept stats...
in any case .. it sucks a$$
Once they commence the cash cow, I could see some 'vigilanteeism' toward the cameras.

As if people aren't gonna be going around and beating the living shiat outta those camers if they do the speed thing. Didn't someone already destroy one a while ago? haha kinda reminds me of the peeps that chopped off the balls on the buffalo's. LMAO

| hey that buffalo move wasn't very fucking cool.. all the money that those thing made being auctioned was going to a charity.. something to do with kids or cancer... if i ever see someone that did all that they'll get my size 11 boot to their teeth |

They were auctioned off and the money went to charity!? Oh shit! my bad! Well, i am still gonna laugh when people start beating the shit outta those cameras....
If i had the money to give to charity i would give it but right now i need my own damn charity to stay alive!

here is a list of locations on the EPS site:
http://www.police.edmonton.ab.ca/Pages/red...s/locations.htm
the cameras can already read speed. the one on yellowhead and 127th was setup to capture speeders a while back. it wasn't used to issue tickets, only to gain some statistics.
and i was told during the nights the average speed was >100km |

| i thought photo radar was required to be overlooked by an operator incase of malfunction and that stuff... and ya i agree, lotsa people would beat the hell outta the box |

I think that average is brought up by extreme speeders, late at night on the Yellowhead I drive 70-75, and very rarely get passed, except by the morons doing 150+. These are the assholes that should be losing their license, they cause accidents and raise my insurance rates and taxes!!!

i have no complaint about red light cameras, i want less people running lights, but the automated speed checking.... i dont like the sounds of that, because what happens when your going through the lights at the speed limit and at the exact same time some guy whos doing 120 catches up with you so you both pass the camera at the same time.
click, the picture gets taken, but whos the speeder?
i had that happen once when i was doing 55kph around the bend at the end of university ave (Think thats the name) and the photo van was in the trees, and some grand am flew past me at like 130.
the pic was taken, but i never recieved a ticket, so im assuming the operator either trashed it, or assigned it to the grand am. |

Stupid cash cows..... useless waste of my money....redlight cameras that take photos for not stopping are good because they try and deter red light running, although they could also cause accidents... people trying to get through faster w/out getting the ticket...? If they make em like photoradar to, I know I for one will be pissed, it's ridiculous a stupid cash cow!
same w/ photoradar, Although I'dmuch rather receive a ticket in the mail than on the spot, cause those on the spot ones come w/ demerits and demerits aren't good! Here in St Albert they just got a new photoradar vehicle a dark colour jimmy w/ a bush guard and photo equipment mounted nthe front... now tha'ts the cash cow king, drive places and hide where you normally couldn't w/ a van! Gets my blood to boil when they hide! Ppl hit their brakes and nearly cause an accident because they go from speeding to nearly a stop! ... i'm just gonna stop here.... |

| photoradar is a cashcow, bottom line. Too bad we're all so pathetically apathetic, I really think we should have stopped the photoradar bandwagon before it got momentum. It's not a deturent towards bad driving, just think, if you have enough money it doesent really matter if you get busted by photoradar. But getting demerits on your license, that's a diferent story. I dont like photoradar because it takes the officer out of the equation, I think its good to get an officer to hand out tickets and check out the people he stops. I mean if somone has a kidnapping victim in the car or is drunk out of their mind, a photoradar ticket will just slap them with a fine and let them continue on their happy way. Just my 2 cents |
