What Oil do you use??? - Click HERE for Original Thread

92_WhItE_H23
I like to run Royal Purple when i can. Otherwise i use mobil 1. However today i found out my buddy who is a heavy duty mechanic at a construction company has access to all weights of AMSOIL. He said i can use as much as I want and i will only get charged thier cost for the oil. Anyone know how good this stuff is compared to the other oils out there and what do you use?

S2KPWR
Relative Viscosity Retention
(as a percentage of initial viscosity retained
after normal use)

1500 miles.......

Mobil 1 ..............83.0%
Castrol synth.....74.5%
Castrol GTX........68.0%
Honda HP4.........65.6%
Spectro 4...........63.9%

Im not sure about amsoil, havnt used it myself, but I'll stick to mobil 1.

92_WhItE_H23
yea its good and not too expensive. I like royal purple better tho it gives me a better idle it seems.

I use mobile 1 in the lude...preferably I used it in my GTP and I was happy, but with the supra I use castrol gtx, cause is doesn’t need that good stuff because it will use it all up hah.

mobil 1

amsoil is the best full synthetic oil u can get.... and amsoil was one of the first high quality full synthetics on the market too.....

i would stick with the amsoil.... but dam it can be expensive...

how much are u getting it for???

98_Prelude
for amsoil all u got to do is find a dealer, its only like $8/qt,
not that expensive at all, and its good shit too

92_WhItE_H23
less then 11 bucks for an oil change..not including filter

2ndgenlude
for 11 bucks i would do it for sure. supposed to outperform mobil 1, royal purple, etc.

98_Prelude
i wish less than 11bux for an oild change,
a quart is less than a liter, so do tha math...

92_WhItE_H23
yea well they have the oil in huge barrels and they got a shelf about 40 or 50 ft long atleast 60 barrels of it hah.

jeff92lude
im still not convinced of this synthetic fad. i use 5w 30 quaker state i think.

92_WhItE_H23
i am completely convinced.. When i had the ITR and i switched to Royal Purple the difference was night and day. My idle was completely smooth and my accelleration was like fuckin the hottest chick youve ever met.

littledan

Your buddy being a HEAVY DUTY mechanic means he probably has oil for HEAVY DUTY engines, like 1000hp diesel engines, and the diesels I do oil changes on use 15w40, not exactly something you'd want to put into your Prelude! lol
Should be using 5w30 even 0w30 if you can find it, in the winter. In the summer anywhere from 5w30 to 15w50 is ideal(most use 10w30) depending on how hard you're pushing her.

92_WhItE_H23
lol no offense but i know what type of oil my car needs.. his company has machines, rigs, massive trucks and cranes, right down to little pick up trucks used to run parts.. they got ALL types there. i will be using 5w40.

jeff92lude
why is 5w40 better than 5w30??? im talking synthetic here.....

92_WhItE_H23
it will either be 5w30 or 5w40 i read 5w40 is better for the SC system.
