Conservative minority bithces!!! - Click HERE for Original Thread

jasonturbo
Hip hip hooray!!!! no big shocker here, conservatives are in!!!!!!

I will also add that a group of girls I know that happen to be lesbians went and voted for liberals based strictly on the fact that the cons. party more or less oppose gay marriage....???

Is being able to get married to a your same sex partner more important than running the country into the ground??? Voting for whatever party that allows you to be married and gay is more important than which one has a better platform overall???

This is the problem with society, same reason they even bring up issues like abortion, just to secure votes. For whatever side.

No more liberals!!!!!!!! ahahhahahahahahaaaa

slowly but surely my tax dollars will stop trickling out east!!!hahahahahahahaha

And for everyone that voted liberal...Why did you vote liberal?????
You enjoy having your money stolen???? Scandal Scandal

Or inaction for that matter, canada is no better off no than 13 years ago, and dont bring up the dollar, cause it was the same 13 years ago.
On top of that, you can point the finger more at US for the dollar the way it is.

Bow down to your new god- Emperor Harper!!!!!

PraxGTI
I am glad the Conservatives got in, however, I don't believe there will be any change in the stance towards gay marriages...people have rights, gay or not, to enjoy thier lives along the path that it their own.

Go conservatives...you get one chance with me, and only one, screw up and im voting bloc next election

ozzmodan
Hopefully they can get their platform through on a minority government so Atlantic Canada will vote some more in for a majority. If they screw it up though, the next election I'm getting right liquored up puking in the ballot box. I think that'll make a point.

Kyle

jasonturbo
like I said, some lesbian friends of myne.....

they do piss me off sometimes though

like when they won thave sex with me!!!

Maybe it's cause I'm disgusting!!!

I dont care who marries who, but dont let something like that decide your vote...what is that like a hate crime directed at straight people????

Yeah, minority gov. this term, they will more than likely last 2 terms, assuming they dont fob up real bad.

But I doubt it, preston manning was the man, he should be prime minister right now

rreeeeeeeeeeeeffffooooooooooooorrrrmmm

thats how he used to say it, so enthusiastic..

icydude

He must like how the Liberals said they would change Income Trust taxation (sending Income trusts down 20% down).

Then, LO and behold. A month or so before the election, they say, 'psyche! We're not doing anything.' Oh wait, not before they tipped off their buddies about this information firsthand.

(There's a RCMP investigation started regarding illegal trading activity linked to the Liberals).

icydude
haha yeah, the income trust stuff would have been very nice.

the company i work for has about 420 million in an income trust right now

JonJonPoPong
I think the best statement on gay marrige is:
No man can marry another man, and no woman can marry another woman, seems like equal rights to me.

jasonturbo
All I can say, is I'm actually worried with how school are supposed to deal with that... esspecially catholic ones.

But there shouldn't be an issue cause gay people cant make babies.. but they can probably adopt them.

I say "if it says it's wrong in the bible, It must be really wrong"

But I am a religious person

2ndgenlude
im kinda worried how conservatives are going to handle things. im glad on the minority, didn't want them to have a majority.
i voted green for teh win though
i couldn't decide between liberal and conservative.

PraxGTI
Gay rights are based on long biased religeous rule of kingdoms in the early 1600-1700s.

If we rule our country based on religeon it would also be a law to go to church every sunday and you would be thrown in prison for swearing at your parents.

Times change, I am proud to say that Canada is an accepting and kind nation that does not descriminate people based on anything ethnic, religeous, or sexual. That is the Canada I am proud to be a part of.

I have a lot of friends that are gay and I respect their lifestyle and their desire for freedom of choice and partner.

Thats all I have to say about that.

BTW depending on whether or not you are reading the new or old testament there are a lot of things in the bible that are considered wrong that we do on a regular basis...I personally believe that bible aside, we should all be accepting, forgiving, and be honest and kind to one another.

But I am anti-religeous, after being a part of 5 different religeons throughout my youth I decided it just wasnt for me...

jasonturbo
than you shouldn't have voted at all.
why give the green party charity votes????
It's like the bloc... like they will ever get in, so why even run?

Oh yeah, I'm sure the conservatives are descended from God himself so they don't do that. Liberal or Conservative, they all do it.

because i have the right to.
i just couldn't decide between the 2 major parties. both had ideas i liked, both had negative ones. so i gave a vote to someone who i believed in what they were saying.

jasonturbo
yes, I have a gay uncle, and I dont treat him any different.

Gay marriage is a sensitive issue

You may remember that it was the PC's that brought in the 7% GST in lieu of the manufacturer's tax to "supposedly" pay down our debt.

I don't believe anyone here is naive enough to believe that the government is going to give up approx $5B (assumed) in revenue and not recover it by other means...Translation: You are still going to get jacked the same amount.

Why should we be happy?

Personally, I think the current Liberal party did a "fair" job of getting Canada back on track on where we need to be globally.
Economically, we are doing well. Our dollar is strong at .86 USD, unemployment didn't seem to be an issue this election, and Canada is still one of, if not THE best place to live.

In a time when corporate governance is getting exposure and becoming a mandate for all companies and governments due to the damage done by Enron/Worldcom/Tyco's it was only a matter of time before the current government, regardless of who was in power, got caught with their hand in the proverbial cookie jar.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not condoning the abuse of power by the Liberals. However, when trying to select the lesser of the evils, are the Liberals that bad? When you read thru all the propaganda of each party, they are mostly saying the same things about the issues which are fundamentally important to most Canadians: lower taxes, better healthcare, resolving trade issues, increased family / child care support, and a responsible and representative government. I feel it's the other items and values affecting smaller groups that become more important to me, making it easier to differentiate the parties and select one whose values are in line with my own.

To quote on of the funniest comedians of our time:

“I got some shit I'm conservative about, I got some shit I'm liberal about. Crime - I'm conservative. Prostitution - I'm liberal.” – Chris Rock

Question to everone:

Which party supports values that are close to your own on topics like:
Same Sex marrige
Immigration
Defence
Foreign policy
Multicultrism
Education
Environment
Law
Aboriginal issues.

I guess we will see how the new minority Conservative government plays out. I’m guessing that they will be weaseling some deals with one of the opposition as it suits their agenda. Although, probably any party in the same situation would be doing the same thing. Again which of the lesser of the evils should lead us into the future?

Let's do it again in 18 months after the next vote of non-confidence.

David

P.S.: Anyone who was elligible to vote but didn't shouldn't complain about the upcoming government.

Pathetic, isn't it? Yet another reason why by and large Canadians are stupid.

Conservative minority.... bitches?

Is it me or did it just get stupider in here? :dunno:

You know a country is starting to go downhill when the voting public starts to treat the political parties like sports teams who they support regardless of merit or position on current issues. In this campaign it seems like the cons approached most of the major issues in a very similar manner to the libs, and basically pleaded the 5th on more controversial topics like abortion and gay rights. I'd hazard to say that if there hadn't been the liberal infighting they would have been able to nail Harper on those issues and things like Kyoto, missile defence, long term plans for health care, etc. and the result of the election might have been slightly different.

As it stands now, the people who've been complaining for the last 12 years have what they wanted.... now what are they going to do with it? :)

Excellent post! For the average Canadian, including myself, I'm not going to see a hell of a lot less or more money at the end of the day regardless of which party is in power. Therefore, I based my decision on the party's social agenda.

To those who say that the issues of gay marriage or abortion etc. are not important, that is your opinion only. To me, those issues are the most important things. They are how your fellow Canadians are treated. It is how the world will come to view Canada as a nation. Two of the biggest things I see wrong with the United States is the problem of racism/discrimination and the huge gap between the rich and the poor. Slowly, Canada is sliding down this same slope and I don't see the Conservative government doing anything to help this.

Regarding gay marriage:

Give the homosexual community a right to a legal union (and whatever benefits go along with that), call it something other than "marriage" to appease the heterosexual "purists". That way the gays get what they want, and the rest of Canada whether they care or not can just shut up about it. Call it done. Stop wasting taxpayer money and the court's time on this kind of BS.

It's a minority gov. Dance and gloat away, but realise that nothing will change in this country until a Majority gets in, or at least a minority with a very large lead.

Agreed. Seems like a lot of people think it's a bet you put down on the winner, instead of a vote for the policies you agree with.

REFLUX
I also voted based on the social agenda I agreed with the most.
Child care, education.

And as for people voting based purely on "Gay Rights" or another single issue, it's better than not voting.

If that issue is important to them, they have every right to support the party that appeals to them.

You make it sound so bad. There was basically no chance any party would form a majority government. This was still the best outcome. I know you don't support the Conservatives or the Liberals, so your vote didn't help the situation according to your post.

There really is a good balance this time around. Still, I don't see a lot getting done, but at least there won't be any radical changes.

Our Dollar is strong because of a faltering US economy and our Economy being stable. NO other reason. Since SEPT. 11. 2001. the US dollar has fallen and ours has risen in its place.

And BTW. Canada is one of the best places to live because of the people...not because of the government. The government doesnt make the country what it is...we do.
