So while our site is down for repair I will entertain you with the ever interesting tails of the "Winter Car"

**just to piss you off**
So SAAB did in 1986 what all the Honda boys are trying to do now with the wee cars today. Intercooled turbo on a front driver. Why did it take 20 years to catch up? Oh yeah,,I remember now, nobody would pay that much for a Honda.
**pissed yet?**

SAAB Update:
January 5th ish
I purchased a 1986 SAAB 9000 Turbo as a fun toy for the winter. It had a funny sound when I gave it a little extra with the gas and soon found out that the engine was no longer attached to the car....:dunno:

So the motor mounts in the car are all good now that they have been replaced and now the car sort of has that quiet respectful feel & sound to it.

Of course now I can hear something binding when I go into corners, the turbo spools and barks nicely at all rpm and without the banging of the motor to frame.

I now have a full understanding of torque steer and backlash. As I was making a spirited right turn my head had the opportunity to hang out the window long enough to see that my tire sidewalls cannot take much of that kind of pressure. Foolishly I let off the gas at mid apex only to have the car snap left thus cleaning the side walls of the passenger side tires. Please note that during this manuver the car was never more than 80% out of it's lane. LOL

So I bought struts for the front today and hope to get them in this weekend. This may reduce the "full body roll" effect in the car.

So what's next?
One can reduce torque steer with the following:
*Rear shock & swaybar bushing replacement will be next.
*Front swaybar bushings are cooked so a new set would be in the budget and not impossable to do. The sites say it really helps allot with handling.
*Steering rack clamp. I am told that the steering rack flotes on rubber mounts, that should be changed also, that allow the rack to move side to side under boosted launch. There is a clamp you can buy that will stop this from happening. Or you can weld the rack to your frame. either way that is another solution to torque steer.
*There is a company in the UK (I think) called Abotts Racing that makes a LSD for the SAAB's. $1,400 US + shipping & duties and this issue is resolved.
*Stage 1 kit from the states will give 220~230 hp for $399 + tax & duty.
*MBC to crank the PSI up into the teens! OEM is like 9 or 10 I think.

Not bad for a beater what do you think?
