100+km/h BACKWARDS! - Click HERE for Original Thread

uncle ben
on my way to work today, just a few miles out of town the highway twins and meets at an intersection. The double lane lasts for about 2km. I catch the red and when the light goes green me and the minivan in the next lane take off normally. About 20 seconds later me and the minivan are going about 100km/h, my lane ends pretty soon (i'm in the right lane) so i start to pass the minivan and as i'm signalling and turn into his lane my backend breaks loose and my car starts to slide sideways. (rear slides towards passenger side) i correct but it just reverses the slide. "I still think i'm ok, and figure the next time it switches it should straighten out" The third time the back end kicks out farther, "I figure i'm i'n trouble" so i crank it back, the car then switches again and i'm sliding sideways going towards the ditch, i crank it hard left and do a 360 and slide to a stop in the far left lane of the 4 lane highway. I then pull into the nearest turnoff and that the almighty for not turning me into a skidmark.

What i've learned: passing people on glare ice is not as easy as you think it is.

heh, i had a similiar experience on hwy 2. the problem is mainly that when youre going 100+ and u arent smooth in your lane changes, its shifts the weight of the car enough to overcome the tires traction...

heh, cept i managed to keep my keep my car on the road, altho i did give all the drivers behind me a nice show :)
