| I got a muffler ticket for excessive noise. now i was not high reving my car and the cop was infront of me pulled into a turn lane and waited for me to proceed from the light to pull me over. My muffler isn't that loud and i was doing 60 in fifth gear so my revs were at 1500 so not loud at all. just does this seem unfair to anyone and can he do that. i mean it was at 7:30 at night and not in liek a residential area either so and i realize that after 10 thats legit but i wasn't being a prick or anything.. so |

Just fight it.. and Keep your balls when you talk to the crown...

Let me guess - no one told you when you bought your fart cannon that you could get ticketed for it being annoyingly loud?
Obviously the sound was louder than it should have been - if it was quiet as stock, then why would he pull you over? |

| you'll win. he didn't measure. worst case... they'll make you get it measured or something... as long as you stay respectful |

If he received the ticket under the City of Edmonton bylaw, it states that sound does not need to be measured by the officer. |

They typically don't do the bylaw thing.
...funny that he'd get a loudness ticket but no enlarged tip ticket. :dunno: |

ETS buses operate under far different noise regs than passenger vehicles. Same with bikes. That's why Harley's can be so loud.
Air1 is loud? You obviously haven't spent much time around helicopters, because a Eurocopter EC-120 is one of the quietest helicopters built today.
Maybe your attitude towards the "cock sucker" Police played a role in your ticket? :dunno: |

It's just common sense.
If you have an aftermarket exhaust, or a big hole in your existing one, prepare for the chance to be ticketed.
You know it's wrong, why complain when the police officer tells you it is too?
If you don't like the law, fine, do something to change it. |

Quite true! If a loud helicopter passed over your house it wasn't very probable that it was Air1 unless it was hovering less than 50ft above your house. The Eurocopter EC-120 is one of the quietest production helicopters available. Quieter operations are as a result of an enclosed 8-bladed Fenestron and a 3-bladed main rotor with swept tips. Typical helicopters produce about 105db while the EC-120 produces a mere 78.7db! That's not even as loud as a motorcycle(95db), a baby's cry(115db), or a rock concert(120db). So I'm sure that very breif passing over your house doesn't disturb your neighbours as much as your stereo that plays up in the range of 110db consistantly!
The Bell CH-146Griffon that the Canadian military uses is much louder(around 110db) and sometimes has night sorties, perhaps they flew over your house, or possibly a civilian jet helicopter?
Or maybe you could just STFU and let them do their jobs! I hate cops as much as the next guy, but for godsakes, if you have a loud muffler, then deal with the consequences of it, or FIX IT! But don't come in here asking for help to fight a ticket, because you'll only get flammed! If you want some help fighting a ticket there's more than one posting like yours, read back and don't be such a bloody idiot! |

I used to hear Air 1 circling over my place all the time when I lived down town. Now unless other choppers have a huge ass spot like air 1 does, it was air 1.
As far as the ticket goes, the Federal Regs specific noise limits and testing method, but they seem to imply busses. The Alberta Regs just says "excessive" noise, it does not specify how many db. So it's a judgement call but the cop.
Also FYI the noise bylaw... is 24/7, they're just a little mroe lentiant during the day. Someone called on me at 4pm on a Saturday, I was out back of my dad's garage, building a new sub box. But they subs weren't in the trunk, and I told the Officers that what they where hearing was as loud as it's been all day. |

everyone cries about the loud exhaust tickets, when you buy your fat can exhaust , it comes with a handy little thing called a silencer, that supresses the noise , until of course you step on the gas , but for some reason, no one uses that piece they just take it out and make noise, and when they get caught, They Bitch, Deal with the consequenses, or take the damn muffler off the car
the main problem ppl have is that all they buy is the Fartcan piece it self, my buddy bought a Complete Apexi Gt Spec Catback Exhaust With a Silencer For His Si Civic and its quiet as hell, has never had any trouble with the police My Point Is , When you buy things for your car, you know its gonna draw more attention to it, you should be prepared to deal with the consequenses of your Actions
But thats just my personal opinion of course |
