I skimmed through the forums a bit out of curiousity, and i guess they modify the guns that are supposed to shoot big darts into shooting a smaller one, so the smaller ones go farther and faster.

Inzane
well, that is a little strange.

But... is it really any geekier than any other hobby out there? The act of collecting things or pursuing a hobby kinda implies a bit of geekiness, regardless what it is.

To a non-car enthusiast a "car guy" is probably a geek to them.

LeadSled
OMG! He said he copied it from some Anime :smack:

icydude

All kidding aside, I think its sort of neat. Its interesting to see people who have a passion for something, whatever it is.
There was a guy on nexopia who said his dream is to ride every buss in the world.

What the hell are you going to do with a modified paintball gun? Chances are if you did that it would be questionable whether it'd be allowed on a course for safety reasons. Not to mention competitions that have rules about fair play.

Stainless
I find it hilarious that people on a CAR MODIFICATION forum would even take .5 of a second to make fun of this.

You all realize that what we do is essentially pointless in the grander scheme of things? What are you going to use a turboed-up civic for? Is it going to get you through the Wendys drive-through faster? Do you need a Skyline to get you to work faster on a road that the limit is 60 km/h?

I praise these guys who are doing that to nerf guns. I've never worked in a cubicle situation, but if I did, and there was an atmosphere of Nerf war, you bet I would be modifying them.

Your CAI that you put on your Celica to give you more power for the strip is not much different than the nerf guys incresing air pressure (I'm assuming) to be able to hit the guy on the other side of the office.

People modifying existing tech is what makes things better in the world. What if these guys came up with a cheaper way to increase HP on a car using Nerf technology? At that point you would all be saying how rad these guys were.

Please look at everything in context.

LeadSled
How is modifying your car pointless? You can make your mode of transportation more efficient; since I started modifying my mileage has improved 15-20% on my DD. It also rides better and has more power. Hardly pointless in the grand scheme.

The reason I laugh at it is the same reason I laugh at any adult playing with children's toys. Or in the case of the dude on the last page, he is apparently the "rice" of the Nerf world.

Charles_00civic
ya.. I've been looking for a good newbie nerf gun for a while. You know under .02PSI. I dont think I could handle much more than that.

I agree i was a bit of an :asshole: and say things that were uncalled for.

A buddy modified his paintball gun to shoot 8 paintballs a second(so i've heard). Some paintball tournaments allow automatic paintball guns and 8 a second ain't bad

Edit: the same guy thought modifying (sp?) cars are pointless... then he got a monte carlo

Buddyworm
I'm gonna have to go with stainless on this one. Don't mock them for their hobby and then pretend yours is somehow different just because it makes this better or that better. A hobby is a hobby. It's something completely unnecessairy that we do for fun.

B-Wurm :D
