| Shortly after I bought my cavalier, I was turning north onto 97st. Was stopped at a yield sign, waiting for traffic to clear so I could proceed. I VERY VERY slowly started to creep forward when the light going south to north turned yellow. I had to stop because 2 trucks cleared the intersection and I had to stop. When all of a sudden, WABAMMO. Someone rearended me. I got out of the car and approched the other guy as he walked up to my car. The guy asks me, "Geez did I just hit you car?" I respond, "You f****** smoked me, genius!" There was absolutly no damage to my car, no one was injured, but I wanted to exchange information because we all know how well built cavaliers are. The guy looked all nervous, asking if maybe we should move our vehicles out of the way of traffic, and I asked "and then risk you speeding away, no chance in hell buddy. Get you insurance and registration then we can be on our way." Gets gets back in his car starts digging frantically thourgh all his junk. He gets out of his car and says, "listen I just got out of my apprentiship and all I have is my motorcycle registration." I responded, "Thats not going to cut it." Then he asks, "Can I just get your phone number and call with all the info when I get home?" I said "No, I want to to see the info before we go." Guy gets back in his car starts looking through all his junk again. I turn to my brother and say "He got no insurance or registration, I'm calling the police." I call the police and the first thing I say is "I DO NOT NEED AN AMBULANCE." First thing that shows up is the ambulance. I finally agree to move my car into the near by wendys parking lot. Police show up I hand them all my info, they run it no problems with my stuff. They ask me to wait in my car. So, I do. I had the window down and hear them talking to the guy "First ticket is for an unregistered motor vehicle on the road, second is for an uninsured motor vehicle on the road." Kind of felt bad for the guy and at the same time, kind of felt good about what I just did. The guy got what he deserved. I got his number and what not just incase there was damage to my car. My brother was complaining about a sore neck, so I took him to the doctor, doctor said it was whiplash. Took him home to my dad, who then wanted me to give me that guys info so he could sue. This is what I said to my dad "Your not getting s*** dad. There is no way that your sueing over something this F******* lame." I was about to burn the guy anymore and I knew my brother would be better in a few days. My dad wasn't to pleased with me, and my brother was pain free within the week. I just realized that I have no idea why I told this story. But since it took me so long to type it, I am going to post it. And yes, I really do talk to my dad like that, hes a complete jackass who is never going to get my respect ever again for reasons I will not discuss in here. |

What, so we'll just let that guy drive around with no insurance or registration because he MAYBE is poor.
And if he hits you and puts you in the hospital then YOU'LL be poor too, so it works out, right, fair and square. Way to go, Robin Hood.

He admits he 'burned' the guy. Then when his dad tells him he should sue, he flips out.
That's why I think he's a hero. He didn't do the 'right' thing because obviously he didn't in his own mind, or his fathers.
In my mind people shouldn't be driving without insurance/registration or be speeding etc etc. But if I saw someone struggling to get out of the situation, then I wouldn't 'hang' them out to dry, ESPECIALLY when nothing would come of it. There was a MUCH better solution to the problem.
The punishment doesn't fit the crime. I believe in humanity and not letting an automatic decision punish someone. The guy had no insurnace, and our hero had a chance to set him straight, but he took the easy, bullshit way out. And I can GAURENTEE you that guy is driving without insurance now for sure! Did he solve the problem? No he compunded it.
He took the easiest, least humane way out of the situation. I don't expect 'kids' to understand how I feel, but maybe in time you will see enough of the world, and learn some wisdom to realize that it could've been handled MUCH better. |

The guy is going to get hit with a 2000+ ticket. How exactly is that going to help him get his car insured?
I lay odds that he will be driving forever without insurance now. The problem with people is they THINK they are doing the 'right' thing. But in reality, most people are clueless. |

Why don't we all pitch in 100 bucks to pay for this poor guy's tickets. Then we can all pitch in to pay for the damage next time he gets into an accident. And we can all work together to pay for the medical bills if anyone gets hurt. Then we can all pitch in to pay for the new car both people need after the accident.

Lets see if your pride and joy was rear ended what you would do in the same situation. How do you know this guy can't afford insurance and registration? Maybe he's just an idiot or a criminal. Punishment is there for those who commit the crime, its not issued on a case by case basis.
I would have done the exact same thing, and I also would not have tried suing for a sore neck either. I think the whole suing trend is part of the pussification of society that really chaps my ass. And yes, I've been in an accident that made my neck a little sore, but it went away in a few days. |

:)
What I like about this story is that the guy was perfectly within his rights to sue, claiming whiplash and whatever damage he wanted to have fixed on his car. But he didn't. If he had, the no insurance guy would REALLY have been poor; instead of paying out 3 or 4 thousand for tickets, he'd be looking at 10 000 or more. The protagonist of our story didn't have dollar signs in his eyes, and wasn't out there to make a buck. He was just pissed, and rightly so, that some guy crashed into his car, and didn't have the legal documents that would have protected them both from financial troubles.
It's not clueless to expect others to follow society's regulations and laws. |

I've been in an accdient where it made my "neck sore" I wasn't even going to go to the doc, til I collapsed at work about an hour after it happened. Damn Doc put me in a neck brace for a month. i didn't want the stupid thing.
Each case is different.
But Yes, I probably woulda called the cops too. Some people just have their priorities screwed and think insurance and such aren't "needed".
Also for injuires, where you have to take time off work and get meds/pain killers you submit a claim to your own section B, they then re-imburse you for time off work and meds. Then go after the other guy to get their money back. You only sue if you want money for pain and suffering or something like that. but with the new rules unless your really fubar'd aka not soft tissue injuries it's quicker and cheaper to just take a settlement. |

dc2696 being on a message board longer then another person dosent absolve them from being a dumb ass, and ehos is.

This is edmonton there are alot of patches of ice on our roads and regardless of how good a driver you are, you simply cant not perdict running into one and doing a good 2k damage to someone eles.
If you cant afford insurance dont drive, take the bus, its cheaper then gas.
If you honestly think that your big hearted ehos and that your right and the guy should of let the dip shit go away, then your really a fucken retard.
Its like that fucktard who lived in a rented house/condo/appt whatever it was and his dumb ass kid set it on fire and the whiney bitch was complaining about how he dident have insurance and now hes lost all his things and the owner of the place is now commen after him for the damage done to his property. |

According to what I was told, previous to the new laws, there was/is a slush fund that everybodies pays into, it's like the section c or whaterver, could be a part of section b.
Anyhow, in a case of a no insurance person causing significant damage/injuries the sluch fund is used to pay out then the gov/ins board goes after the uninsured to get the money. Either a really really long payment plan, or something. |

Ok, first answer me this. Nothing came of it. No damage to your car, nothing, but you know in your heart you will totally fuck this guy over if you make a big deal of it.
You know you can easily teach him a lesson. You could make a difference in his stance on insurance. Wouldn't you make that little bit of an effort?
Would you rather 'burn the guy' without any foresight or consideration?
Answer me first than I'll tell you what I would do. |

Answer this. Now if you got rear ended in your RX7 and the same guy said "here is my number, we can settle this after" And you call that person later that night and you get "this number is not in service"
Would you say "oh well ..." and eat the cost of repairing? Or would you be posting about how pissed off you are at the retard that rear ended you? |

He deserves it for making such an irresponsible decision. He'll learn a valuable lesson and hopefully never do it again. If you can't afford insurance, you can't afford a car. The bus is cheap. Being poor is not an excuse for not having insurance. |

Either way, not fair on the people that are paying $5,200 a year insurance, when this guy is paying $0 a year. Thiers a price to pay when you break the law. His is $2900 for no insurance and I am not sure how much for not haveing registration. |

I bought a car off a friend on the weekend, but I managed to get insurance for it, but not registration. I got pulled over, I was using an old expired plate, I was straight up with the cops, showed them the bill of sale, the insurance, and said I just picked it up and I'm heading straight home, and I'll be registering it first thing tomorrow morning(it was about 11:30pm sunday).
Anyhow. the cop took my info a supervisor showed up.. they yapped thenthe cop came back and told me he could tow it, and I would get over $600 in fines. But he figured since the car wasn't worth that much he'd to me a favor. But he told me if anything happened like an accident my ass would be grass. I said yeah I know. I think he let me go cause I was from out of town, the time, and I atleast had insurance. And the car was a literal POS and looked like one.
So the fines woulda been for no registration and unauthorized plate I think, maybe another one. |
|
|
| englebert |
| I thought you had 2 weeks to change over the registration on the car...Although I could be wrong. |
|
|
| SilverNeonRacer |
Only if you had valid registration on another vehicle.
Say you have a 93 cavi, all legal, sell it, by say a BMW, you have 2 weeks then.
but if you Have a Cavi, keep it, buy a BMW, you have to register the BMW before you drive it. You cannot use the cavi's plates. Unless you transfer the plates to the BMW, in which case, it still needs to be done before you drive the BMW. |

I stand corrected then. Your original story makes it seem like he's just a bum ducking out. But if he has cash for a bike + insurnace, then he does get his due rights.
And I never said I condoned driving without insurnace, just that there different ways to handle the situation. |

ou gotta go to a registries to get eth in transit sticker, so you might as well get plates.
As stated above you can use a plate of a car that is registered to you, and the plate is active, but you no longer own that car. |
