barely got out of a ticket... - Click HERE for Original Thread

Fish_e_o
first off i wasn't showing off or anything i was trying to keep my car running and driving..

so i'm driving on some country road and there's a party at some kids house so cars are all around... sure enough i'm not used to my 65mm tb yet and it's cold as hell for not having an iac... so i'm reving so the car doesn't die but i'm also trying to drive ( iknow i should have warmed it up but hey i'm lazy..) sure enough when you crack a 65mm tb on 2.0 l engine it shoots to about 4000  which can be fun but..

it turns out the cops were breaking up the party so as i was in first idleing through hoards of 16 year olds i was spinning the tires every couple of feet (because it was idleing and then dieing so i would give it gas) so it just so happens the cops run infront of me and try to give me a ticket for stunting and exhaust etc.. assuming i was some punk ass kid who was at the party... luckly the rcmp were quick to change their mind when i explained the situation showed him my throttle body and showed them my stock muffler!!!

i now have a new respect for the police because he could have very well given me the ticket, i did spin my tires... and the thing is he was probably already pissed off that he had to baby sit these little brats at some party...

RC's are +1 on EPS in intelligence that's for sure...

nice man, stock muffler 1 tin can 0

Fish_e_o
actually i noticed performance gains with the stock muffler over my dyno max!!! so i researched it and found some dyno sheets that proved it so.. stock muffler2 / 0 tin can!!!!

Theres no point of putting a straight through muffler on non turbo vehicles anyways. thats why so many hondas sound like shit.

Not to mention it helps loose whatever low end torque that they have.:dunno:

That's about the worst generalization I have ever read on here.

F4geze63
Thats just because you dont know the science behind it. What good does it do to put a fart can on any honda thats non turbo?,

maybe gain 2-3 hp topend but it huts the allready pathedic low end even more.

Atleast a turbo benifits from a baffelless muffler.

Where did I say anything about a honda?

F4geze63
im just sayin as an example because thats the majority of NA vehicles that have baffeless muffles.

lots of domestic v8 guys running around with baffleless mufflers and seems to do them good.

F4geze63
I should of been more specific, a small displacement engine 122ci has way less need for a straight through then a 350ci v8 as that v8 is actually pushing a shit load of exhaust and allready has a decent amount of torque, where as the 4cyl needs all the back pressure it can get to generate tourque.

may not be correct but thats how I see it.

I ran straight pipe on a neon - acceration was a little quicker(based of starting at point X and seeing how fast I was doing by point B on the highway) and fuel milage was better on the highway.

I run a straight through oval Borla on my 318, minor performance differences, but my manifolds suck, but milkage in the highway is better.

back pressure doesnt create torque.

taken from scc

If i must i will write out the entire artical but that would be a pita. It has to do with inertia of the air column leaving the cylinder so for the most part usually only the header has much effect on the velocity.

you know it:D !!!!

ya i have also run strait pipe and i loved everything but how loud it was...
the only reason why my stock muffler make more hp than the dynomax muffler is because the dyno max is too concerned with sound... it actually narrows to about 1.75 inches in the muffler:blink: !!!! i have no idea why..
my flowmaster makes more power but i'm to lazy to put it on and it doesn't sound as good as stock ( but lately stock doen't sound so good because i took out my comp:dunno: )

I think your mistaken, most all NA vehicles are going to need backpresure created from a baffeld muffler... Its obviouse that it doesnt create torque, but you will loose low end tourque on a mostly stock NA vehicle, which is what the majority is out there. e.g hondas with fart cans.

I find it amusing, all the posts on how to achive more low end power, answers simple, Use a correct muffler/exhaust for your application.

A real example.

My ford explorer 4.0 v6, If i remove my 2 cats, and add a flowmaster 40 muffler , vs stock. I gain top end, but noticable loss of low end. It isnt as bad though because it has 260ftlbs to begin with, not a measly 90ftlbs.

ahrg what icydude said, buy the new scc or better yet I have two I'll give you one, but back pressure is badddd. You can't have really good low end and really good high end pick one, most honda guys pick high end b/c they already have zero tq so trying to emprove on it would be a waste of time.

Fish_e_o
i would pick high end.. not because i have no low end but because i spend more time @ 5500-7800 on the track...

7800 on what engine? ur neon?

dc2696
haha holly multiple posts batman! whoops. anyway u get the point haha

Fish_e_o
ya... why not...

*edit* stock top end...
soon to be upgraded... just need time to do it..

SilverNeonRacer
Stock fuel cut on a 02 is 7250rpm, 7800 is easy with a race pcm(or whatever)

dc2696
My miata can handle the 7400 fuel cut but I would trust a dodge to sit there for long or often but w/evs.

assuming you ment to say you wouldn't trust a dodge to sit there long...
only stupid people hit the red line often!!! or people who are bad at shifting... and the autox's cant be wrong she still runs like a top and i hit the redline all the time... :dunno: :D

besides at this point if i blow the motor i'll be happy!!(in the long run..) that would mean swap time!!! and i would do it right!!! 2.4 probably Na but who knows i might be swayed by the darkside.. aka turbo...

In a miata it's common knowledge that hitting the limiter (just barely) is the quickest way to accelerate. Also it may be because redline in second gear is just over 100kph (101 or so depending on tires) so it improves your 0-60 by a bit. But ya I wouldn't recommend redlining any domestic car, I'm not trying to be a dick I just don't think its a good idea thats all.

Fish_e_o
same motor pretty much as a na talon just better designed...

it hits 100 at about 7650 so it's really more of a race thing... oh well i'm sure she'll be fine alot of people rev to that and up on neons...
