i just put synchromesh in. definately better in the morning when the tranny is cold. other then that at operating temp it doesn't feel that much different. maybe it just needs to break in?
i also put a litre of the friction modified formula in since i have the lsd.
fuckin 15 bucks a litre. |
| 4thGenLude |
yeah thats what im looking to improve.. the damn cold mornings
at normal temp.. everything is peachy |
| Nis13 |
| hey guys i just picked up four bottles today warehouse serivices is selling quakerstate fullysythtetic syncromesh for 10 bucks a bottle they woulnd't budge on the price said list price was 15 bucks so i think a group buy would be pointless warehouse services off yellowhead and 127st street ask for harry |

does it shift any smoother? any more 5th gear grinding? did you flush the old fluid out before you filled it up? |

all he did was drain the old fluid out, and put the new fluid in. there was probably a bit of honda MTF in there still |
| Nis13 |
| hmm i can't say nothing yet becasue i haven't done it sounds sketchy though let you guys knwo how i do mine tomorrow. im thinking of taking the pan off. or maybe. i have an extra bottle i might just dump it in the flush out what it can who knows yet... |

is this quakerstate full synthetic synchromesh the normal synchromesh stuff?
cause if it is.. i'll most likely just go pick some up tomorrow and get my mechanic to completely flush it because my car is in the shop right now anyways..
and this seems like its going to take a long time anyways..
but yeah.. same stuff? |

my 5th gear never did grind with this tranny (JDM M2B4 LSD with 60k)
cold weather shifting improved dramatically. didn't notice a ton of difference once its warm though. i changed mine on a incline though. not sure if it is 100% topped up. need to top it up in the next few days as i have a extra bottle. |

you used quakerstate full synthetic synchromesh? |
| 2ndgenlude |
| nope, GM synchromesh from a dealership. 10 bucks a bottle, 15 bucks for the stuff with friction modifier. |
| Nis13 |
quakerstate synchrommesh sythetic. i bought 4 bottles. 1 bottle for the floort one bottle for top ups and 2 bottles for the tranny i filled it till it started pouring out the top.
oh first i drop about 200 ml to clean out what was left of the old stufff at the bottom
as it was pouring out the top i pluged it
shifts nice now no 5th gear grinding wooohooo |

| is there a huge difference in trannies tyler minus the LSD??? i really hate the prelude tranny.. im in a big need of something smoother |
| 2ndgenlude |
prelude trannys are shit either way. they shift pretty harsh no matter what you put in them. especially in cold weather.
this tranny is 10x better then my old one but it is still notchy shifting. drives me insane.
it is better though. but for the cost its not justified unless you get the LSD.
even JDM source were being pricks on the price. they didn't want to seperate engine from tranny, so they charged $1300-$1400 for the LSD tranny.
supposely the LSD trannys are pretty rare. |
| 2ndgenlude |
| i wouldn't be surprised. i think the going rate for m2b4 is like 1100-1200 |
| 2ndgenlude |
topped it up today.
took a full litre
i had the car facing downhill and only jacked one side so the fluid was as far away from the fill hole as possible.
did notice improvement after it was topped up though.
also ran sea foam through the engine and rotated the tires.
productive day  |
| Nis13 |
haha yeah it must of been^
Is it the more tranny fluid the better? i thought it had to be just right |
| 2ndgenlude |
| no idea on the fluid. it does shift better then it did before though. |

Got a couple of questions for you guys. Didn't see this thread until today but I was at GM looking for the GM syncromesh this weekend and the guy was going to sell it to me for $25/L bottle.
I have never heard of the quakerstate stuff before today. My question is this, which is better for our cars (QS or GM) and should one spend the extra $10 and get the friciton modifier? What I mean by better is better performance with no adverse effects on reliability or tranny life. |
| 2ndgenlude |
$25/L
i will get you the part number off my bottle when i get home. mine was $10/L at steadleboer (sp?) on 97st by northgate.
friction modifier is a good idea. it has more friction additives similar to the oem honda fluid. everyone reccommends the friction modifier especially if you have a LSD. |
| Nis13 |
| i was pissed after struggling with the placement of the fill hole i forgot all about the friction moddifier |
| 2ndgenlude |
friction mod part #= 1#12377916
normail syn mesh= 1#89021808 |

and that was the GM syncromesh?
Yah, $25/bottle. I knew from the net he was trying to bend me over!!! He even said that is what he sells it to Honda for.
GM 178 St = :asshole: |
| 2ndgenlude |
| yep, GM part numbers. that guy trying to sell it to you was being a complete ass. i told the dealership i went to i was putting it in a honda, and he didn't care. "whatever floats your boat" type of attitude. |

Thanks, I know what I am doing this weekend.
As for the dealership.... I think I will go back and ask for some of their GM high visibility headlight fluid since he must think I am a total moron anyway. |
