Is this the engine that came in the 98 Canadian Civic Si???...

D16Z7
1590cc
4 cyl, 16 valve
SOHC VTEC-II
9.6:1 c.r.
PGM-FI (MPFI)
127 bhp @ 6600
Redline: 7200 rpm
107 lb-ft @ 5500

OR

D15Z
1493cc
4 cyl, 16 valve
SOHC VTEC-E
9.4:1 c.r.
PGM-FI (MPFI)
115 bhp @ 6200
Redline: 7100 rpm
104 lb-ft @ 5400

... Also what is the american equivalent.... And does the D15, D16 correspond to the displacement? And who does vtec-e compare to vtec-2? Lastly what years where the 160hp engines made. And what is there badging.. si-R? si-G?si?

The first engine would have been in a Canadian civic Si. The second one is from a Civic VX or it's equivalent. the E is for economy.

redbaron303
E is for Economy... haha, that's funny.... I have a VG30DET in my ride, but I tell you my e is not for economy! hahaha!

Honda are too complicated... there are SO many options for motors and everything.... it's ubsurd!

Okay can some of you intelligent honda owners help me out. What are all the "levels" for the civic, the ones i Know about is:

cx, dx, ex, vx, si, si-r, si-g.. Which one is the top of the one, also how do you distinguish from the hatchback, coupes and 4-doors... also whats the difference between v-tec "economy"; vtec 2; is there a vtec 3/vtec power?

I think all Civics here have D-series engines.
Except for the SIR's.
They have B16A2's. The motors that have 160hp.
And I think that the SIR's were the top of the line. (2DR Coupes..., 1999)
I don't know the specific differences about the motor though. Sorry.
But it seems, all honda civic owners what the b-series engines.

Some Honda Del Sol's also came with the B16A2.

Are you thinking of buying a civic? Or are you just curious about the engines?

OK well the SIR is the top model, the only civic with a stock B-series engine 160 hp, fully loaded. It was a coupe for 99-00 and it's the only h/b avail for 03.

Si and Si-G have the same 127hp SOHC VTEC engines but the G was a group option package, meaning it included A/c and 4 disc brakes.

VX was the economy 92-95 hatch that came with VTEC-E, awesome fuel consumption. Was also the lightest model.

CX, DX, EX, had the same engines, SOHC Non-VTEC, different options.

(Not too sure about this part)
CX-Hatch only
DX-Hatch, Coupe, Sedan
EX-Sedan only

Here's the different kinds of VTEC

Except I-VTEC

VTEC engines

Please correct my mistakes, I'm not an expert ;)

i 'm pretty sure the cx and the dx have different engines.

The dx came with a 1.6L non-vtec.
The cx came with a 1.5L non-vtec.

MODELS:

cx
- can: hatch only (92-2000)
- us: hatch only (92-2000)

dx
- can: coupe/hatch/*maybe* sedan (92-2000)
- us: coupe/hatch/sedan (92-2000)

vx
- can: hatch only (92-95)
- us: hatch only (92-95)

lx
- can: sedan (92 - 2000)
- us: (unsure if it even exists)

ex
- can: *I think* sedan (92 - 2000)
- us: coupe (92-2000) (american equivalent of our SI/SI-G)

SI / SI- G
- can: coupe/hatch (92-95) coupe only (96-2000, also came in SI-G trim)
- us: coupe (99-2000) (american euivalent of our SIR)

SIR
- can: coupe (99-2000)
- us: (doesn't exist)

can anyone correct me or fill in the blanks/unsures?

I HAVE A 93 DX AND IT HAS THE D15 SOOOO I DONT THINK ITS 1.6
AND THE SIR H\B IS FOR 02' TO, CAUSE I HAVE ONE :moon:

drastik
caps lock is that nice little key above [shift] and below [tab] on the left side of your keyboard, unless of course you meant it to look like you were screaming that entire message.

a. thank you for correcting me about the dx, must be just the power output that differs.

b. If you actually read any of it, you'll notice that I didn't go above 2000 for any of them.
