I would suggest getting something IT related if possible since you are taking CST in September you want all the job experience you can get. Although there was already a thread about the difficulty of finding a job in IT, it seems you aren't too picky and I'm sure you could get something for $10-$15/hr if you know basic computer stuff (Which I'm assuming you do since you are going to take CST).

Some ideas to look:

SilverNeonRacer
You coulld apply at Dell :P Suire it's call center, but if it's like HP the learning curve is quite steep, you learn a shit load in the first bit then it's all memory work.

Do you work there? Or just know people there?

Adam
I work there. Great shop, good guys, mostly young...but like all the others in need of extra hands.

2003specv
Cool. My dad gets most of his trucks serviced there and he just bought a new 06. He's pretty good friends with Diane.

would that make a difference? i figured they would have looked at my resume and said 'you barely have any relevant experience in this trade'

cause if you say my name, then that means I get some cash if you make it more than 3 months which I'll split with you...but if your a dolt, then I get nothing.:D

edmCRX
Adam, what's the pay like at that shop?
is shop cleanup a real bitch or is it ok?

also, if anyone else knows of any decent places to work that pay fairly well let me know too (anything that pays well I'm fairly interested in :) ).

Adam
For shop guys its about 12 an hour...first years get about 17.50 or so.

And clean up is pretty easy...sweep, mop, pressure wash trucks/floors, PDI new trucks, oil changes, pull trannies etc etc

i dont really care about the money, its the apprenticeship part which interests me the most. how long would i have to be a cleaner and what not until they apprentice me? and how good are their benefits?

Adam
Awesome benefits..short term, long term, WCB, health, dental the works.

As far as how long before you get signed....it all depends on you, your skill level, drive, dependability...stuff like that. I've seen guys that get signed after 2 months which is pretty quick and others that are still waiting after 8+ months.

If you have some natural hands on ability you'll be fine... and you'll be in school before you know it....then making the big bucks.

just had to make sure.

if i get an interview of some sort, i guess the main question id have to ask is would they apprentice me if im able to do the job correctly. ive been on a few interviews already which said theres almost no chance of moving and stuff like that

Adam
I dont see why they wouldnt..they have in the past.

I dont understand you last statement though...no chance of moving?? What are you getting at there?

newaccorddriver

i went to an interview last week where i asked the guy 'is it possible to advance into the service department?' and he said 'we just hired all the apprentices we need, so it may take some time'

with him saying 'may take some time' i declined the job offer cause most apprentices stay there for the full 4 years, and i wasnt prepared to spend 4 years(if that or more) as a partsman

oldraven
I know it's easy to mix the two up, but Workopolis is over there.

http://monster.ca/

I don't mean to rag on you, man, but what would possess you to look for a job on 780tuners, as opposed to an actual job search site?

newaccorddriver
ive actually looked on all 3 of those websites already, but its another guy that actually started this thread, not me:p

newaccorddriver
i drove by volvo today and i wasnt sure which entrance to use...:( there was the one on the left side of the building which looked like the main entrance, and another one on the right side which led to the service department. which one do i go to to hand in a resume?

Adam
??? Just go in one of them and ask for me or the service manager...I already told Wolfgang (service manager) about you and the other guy and no show.

are you gonna show up tomorrow???

newaccorddriver
so i should go in the door on the right side of the building for the service department?

ill be going back tomorrow if i can find out wihch door to use

Adam
Use any door...its not complicated, they all lead to the same place...

Ask to see the service manager, bring a resume...and take it from there.

No it isnt...its a business, not a game show....walk through either door and the outcome is the same as the other.

If you were serious about finding a job, you would of went through both doors.

What happens if you go in the wrong door? Do you enter the pits of hell?

actually, one door looked like it led into the office portion of the building, while the other one was for the parts/service department. i wasnt sure which one i was supposed to go through

oldraven
If you go into the Parts/Service entrance, they'll point you in the direction of the office. It'll be alright. *pat-pat*
