Corrective Eye Surgury - Click HERE for Original Thread

Yeah there are some old threads about this, but they're... old.

What are the alternatives in Edmonton? Pros/Cons/Cost/Etc?

SpecV_Ryder2
Pros...well...you can see a whole lot better.
Cons..Halo at night...and depending on the severity of your eye sight, you might not be a candidate for so get your eyes asessed before the doc says for a go ahead.
Price...depends on what the doc says...

Type of Procedure- PRK/Lasic and implantation of lenses

Lasic- if your eyes are not that bad, I heard this is cheap.
PRK- This was what I was told when I got my eyes assessed..told me it would cost 3500 for BOTH eyes..I have -8.5 in both eyes for prescription..can't see shit.

Lens Implantation- basically slice the surface cornea and implant the lens behind then close the flap( I could be wrong...but it's somewhere along that line)...it's because the cornea is not thick enough.

Hope this helps. I'm going to have the PRK done sometime in the next few months...

PRK is very old technology. That was the first surgeries thay where being done. The recovery is alot longer then the laser surgeries and there can be some pain associated with this type. Also with the sits they cut in your eye, if you lead an active lifestyle, with a trama to the eye your eye can actually split apart. I would stay away from this kind as there are lots of much better ones out there now.

Lasik is alot newer and is done with a laser. The recover is alot quicker and there is only some slight discomfort associated with this type.

I had lasik done in 1995. My eyes where -14.5 so I was pretty blind without glasses. For 7 years I wore no glasses, but now I have to wear a light pair to clear up my vision -1.75 as eye surgery does not stop your eye from naturally regressing. I have noticed my nightvision wasnt the best but it is getting better with time. But at -14.5 before the surgery it wasnt that good to begin with.

I havent done much research on it since I had it done, but I am hearing there are more advanced types of surgeries out there now that arent supposed to affect your night vision. I would look into all the options before you go out and pick one.

I went to GImbel to get evaluated. They have good rep. Very professional and thorough explaining everything. Unfortunatly the only thing I qualified for was the implant which is quite a bit more expensive. The laser surgery ranges from $800-1500 an eye. The implant thingy it was like $5000 an eye. Too expensive for me :(

there's a place in calgary. some chick at my work just had it done.

LasikMD. There's a new technology that makes a thinner flap.

cost her 3040 to do both eyes, but her eyes weren't that bad (like -4 or something). I have -7.5 so I'm gonna get those done in a few months.

My mom had lasik.. she was night blind to begin with so that didn't matter, day time vision is great.

My sister had scar tissue floating around her eyes.. so they had her eyes open so many times it's not funny.

Anyhow she ended up getting the lense implants for other reasons and her vision is pretty much perfect now.

Had the Zyoptix procedure done at VisionMed in Vancouver about a month ago.
Couldn't be any happier with the results.

Wow, I'm surprised you were able to get it done. My perscription is actually a bit worse than yours (I have yet to meet anyone with worse eyes than mine) and I was turned down and told that anything worse than -12 was outside what is normally considered correctable and without acceptable risk.

The doc said my eyes haven't stabilized enough to get surgery. 26 years old, and they keep getting worse, about -7. I didn't know people went past -10
