Hey everyone Im new here, I know this forum is basically for Edmonton but I havent seen any Calgary places that are active like here so its worth a shot.
Im from England only been here 2 years so the family is still adjusting to the laws etc.
Anyway, my mum did a U Turn at a set of traffic lights late at night when it was totally empty. The pigs were hiding. I know it is illegal to U turn at a junction with traffic lights or where else posted so I have a few questions:
1) Could she argue that on the mcleod trail why do other junctions with traffic lights have no U turn signs and the junction she did the u turn on there was no sign? [There wasnt a sign]
2) If the officer does not turn up in court does the case get thrown out? Say the last statement is correct, would it get instantly thrown out or would she still have to answer questions?
I dont really know much about the courts here so Ill have to trust you guys and gals to help me help my mum.
Thanks for any helpful posts. :fingersx:
Btw she is in court tomorrow, so please help! |

1) No. Ignorance is not an excuse for ignoring the law.
2) Yes. If the officer doesn't show up, the case is tossed. This is becoming more and more rare as officers get shit from their COs if they don't show. |

as well they get paid to go and sit in court all day so it doesnt really bother them, usually they dont show up if the ticket is insignificant while they have more important things to do. which is rare, or if they are gone on vacation or something.
she can go in and plea for mercy pretty much just explain that your from england bla bla bla and you wont let it happen again maybe get some cash docked off or demerits if there are any. |

They get paid because of it's their job... you make it sound like they shouldn't. |
