That is shitty. I feel sorry for his family and friends. I hope they learn from it especially now that it's lucky number 7 for them.
However, the more and more I read on that thread the angrier I got at Bert and his friends. He was the one being stupid and he paid for it with his life. All the pain he must have been in, I'm sad to say, was deserved. Maybe in not so harsh a way but still...you get what I'm saying?
RIP Bert and may your friend's learn from your mistake. It's not worth it. |

I kind of shocks me,
how a lot of the people posting there can relate.
A few posts don't go by without someone saying they lost someone to street racing as well.
:(
Don't they have many facilities down there for racing?
Just at a loss of words.
I hope they can change from this.
I guess we all have had our share of "street racing", hopefully it takes less then a loss of life to change. |

Street racing isn't meant to kill ppl, yourslef or others included... it's only the inconsiderate butt holes thatt kill the innocent by raccing where it's busy! I mean if you're racing in a deserted industrial park at like 3am, not much can go wrong! If you're racing in rush hour that's just not cool.... it all depends on the situation and place... I figure if we all keep it legla then we only have the chance of taking ourselve and the competition out on the track, and leave innocent ppl to witness it from the stands leaving them mostly oout of harms way!
I don't really know what to feel for that person, as I don't know them. I can tell you that I feel sorry for his family and friends having to go through that, but like I've heard so many times he should have known the consequences and opted out of the race if life meant something more to him! Sorry if this seems cold hearted, I'm not one to get emotional over these sorts of things that don't directly hit me! :tear: |

I'd like to say I feel sorry for his friends and family but I don't. Call me heartless and callous but if he was racing in the street he got what he deserved. Call it kharma or whatever you want but the fact that he was racing in the street not only endangered his life but it also endangered anyone who happened to be around at the time.
Not to be all high and mighty b/c I have been known to engage in a race or 2 on the streets knowing full well that I shouldn't. If I happenned to do the same thing I wouldn't expect any less of a response from anyone. Racing in the street is stupid. Especially when going to the track and racing in a safe "controlled" environment costs less than a tank of gas and more importantly innocent lives.

its the reality of the situation.. a lot of the modifications that people do to there cars make them a lot more unsafe aswell.. things like removing the airbag to put in a cool looking momo steering wheel with NOS buttons for example.. or even the addition of a carbon fiber hood car be extreamly dangerous.. if you get in a crash.. If you race.. don't expect anyone to feel to sorry for you.. there is a reason there is a ambulance at budpark..
Who races over a bridge anyway.. people have a hard enuff time making it over the qunell (sp) [bridge going north on the whitemud] at normal speed forget full out..
I just hope he didn't hurt anyone else when he was doing it. |

| I guess we all can take his situation and become more educated in the fact that we are playing with lives, other peoples and in an only slightly lesser sense ourselves! Ive got two kids myself and i really have to fight the urge to race on the street but all i have to do is think of the consequeses of my stupidity and what it may cause to all the other people in my life and i refrain. I do feel sorry for the friends and family but we all know the deal when we race! |

Boo freaking hoo. I hear so many of these stories, I suppose I've become desensitized towards them, but I can't feel any pain for some idiot kid on the other side of the continent wrapping his car around a pole. Especially when there are reports and warnings issued to these kids all the time, they're taking their lives along with others on the roads lives into their hands. They do not have the skills to drive their vehicles safely on or off the track, and I'm sick of hearing about innocent people being killed by these kids egos.

So your sick of hearing about it??? I guess we should just ignore it then and maybe it'll go away. These things need to be brought up and need to be shown and if it makes one person on here think twice the next time he's challenged on the street then it's worth it. I hope you at least feel sorry for all the people he hurt. I know of many people who say they don't race but when they are on the street they get caught up in the moment and let loose. It takes something to make them change their mind and maybe reading these stories will help. |

I mean more that it makes me sick to read about this all the time. It's always the same thing, different place, different car, different driver, but it's always the same circumstances and the same outcome. Don't get all prissy about details on me, it's always a race, driver makes dumb mistake, people are severely injured or die. I'm sick of hearing people ask about praying for these idiots, they put themselves in that place with their own idiotic choices, no "god" made them do it.
Obviously I feel horrible about the innocent people that are injured or killed by these idiots, but I will feel no pain about them doing it to themselves. If it was someone I knew personally, maybe, but this is some kid on the other side of North America, I'm not going to lie and say I'm praying for the kid because I'm not. It's sad, it's horrible, it's terrible, but they obviously don't seem to be getting it through their heads that street racing is a bad thing.

I don't understand what you are trying to say here... Is it just me or are you still trying to justify street racing legality.... Just because there is no traffic, doesn't meant that its safe to do so... There are many factors that you may/may not even consider or events that are beyond control that may cause you or the quy next to you loose control. Fact of the matter is street racing is dangerour regardless of time and place. |

if you are racing somewhere that limits the casualties to the racers, and the people that are there to watch, and thats all they are there for.. I don't really have a issue.. places like meridian street out by the dump comes to mind.. at about 3am there is no way you are going to kill anyone but your self..
Have any of the real racers here in edmonton ever been killed.. or is it just the guys driving drunk with there mom's 4 door jbody ? |

hell ya.......thats similar to what I was going to post to this.............street racing is for LOSERS.......dont try and justify it. the only reason ppl try to justify it is because they themselves street race and they make themselves think that they can some how justify it, no matter how PATHETIC the justification is.....street racing is dangerour 24hrs a day you NEVER know if some one may be going for a night drive cause they cant sleep of their baby wont stop crying etc......you people who make coments to try and justify street racing make me sick

Basically I'll put it to you like this. I do do light to light jaunts late at night, not full blown racing. I go to watch most of the races on the weekends, and that's why I wasn't part of the villenueve nine (plus I couldn't make it out that night...)
I don't try to justify it as being legal or safe, I didn't say that! I said that there are better places and times to do it, if you are going to do it?! Would you rather have the street racers racing whitemud at 4 inthe afternoon or villenueve at 2 am?! Everyone is right in saying that there is so much that can go wrong at any venue of street racing, but at least if you're out on a deserted piece of road/land/whatever it limits who you may take out. The ppl that generally go out to those events, ie: villenueve are all there too see or take part in the races and should know the risks they take both with life and law! If they don't they're just dumb.... Lets just say that there wasn't anyone to take out but the guy beside you on the strip, then you have the same chances as being done in at budpark... if you put the spectators back in, it could be argued that flying debris could take out somebody in the stands?! I don't think you guys are seeing my point, but I certainly see yours! I understand the risk I take everytime i go out as a spectator, hell I could be hit by some idiot that can't drive that goes through us, the crowd... I think if you HAVE to race and the track isn't the venue then try to limit the things that can go wrong... no place and that includes the track will ever be 100% safe for everyone involved!
The common saying seems to come up - to each his own... I don't have a problem w/ "safer" street racing but I'm not saying that it's something ppl should take up!~ You just don't like it, or the ppl that run, haven't you ever raced on the street before (even if it's just a green light dash to 55km/h?) I'm sure we all have now and then, so don't think you're a god and haven't raced... I highly doubt that any person is 100% street race free! |
|
|
| JDC™ |
well put chris...
the legality of street racing shouldnt be an issue, but when done properly the safety of it should be looked at as not reckless.
Hell, it wasnt too long ago when our fathers would run their cars out in deserted areas and the cops would come to watch and at worst send ya home! |

it's like beating a dead horse
it's like talking to a wall
it's like HELLO street racing should not be tolerated
it's like NO I wouldn't rather street racing be at 2 am on 17st instead of at 4 pm on the mud.......street racing should not be done anywhere, anytime. Even if there are no people around to get hurt if someone smacks up their car EVERYONES insurance goes up when they claim it.
quote: I think if you HAVE to race and the track isn't the venue then try to limit the things that can go wrong... no place and that includes the track will ever be 100% safe for everyone involved!
umm hello nothing is 100% safe BUT a track is a controlled environment where there are safety crews and rules etc etc. if a tracks not a venue then they should wait for a venue....
I am not sorry of you guys are offended or anything else...lets just say ya I have raced* on the street but not for money or for bragging rights....but it was done legally going to help out the public going to a call with hmmm a nice blue and red light bar, wig-wags, strobe lights and a LOUD ASS SIREN!!!!! I have seen and heard about TOO many collisions to be anything but 150% against street racing
* see raced as going to a call to get there as fast as safely possible and not racing other cars there

Okay again... street racing is illegal you are right that it isn't safe! I'm disagreeing w/ you at all man!
It's a known fact that street racing has been around since what, the 50s... hell my grandpa told me of when he did it! My point is that you'll never 100% rid society of illegal activities, whether it be drugs or cars racing on public roads! The way I see it, is that it's better to do such a thing in a place where less ppl can be affected versus doing it on a very busy road!!! Though still illegal, ppl will still head out when they get the chance, there isn't a way to fully curb this scene... like I said it's been around forever and I'm sure insurance and death rates have climed over the years... oh well!
As for you saying that about the insurance... when I lost my Z, if I had claimed insurance under the hit and run that it was, rates still would have gone up! Whether I was racing or whether I was in a hit and run... even if my stereo got stolen then it would have meant insurance will go up! I wasn't doing anything illegal, and it just turns out that it's cheaper for me to not claim insurance this time, but if I could have the chance that other person would be buying me a new car! So the point is, I was almost killed, I lost my car and I wasn't racing, speeding or stunting... It was a hit and run, things like that can happen street racing or just plain out driving when ppl in general don't pay 100% attention to the road!
Street racing isn't the devil, society won't be cured of it.... insurance will continue to rise until we get a better driver training program that helps drivers prevent accidents as so many of us have scene and even experienced! The thing that I hope, is that people are at least sensible enough to keep their illegal racing off busy roads and take it out someplace where there are less people, at least they cut the chances of hurting other ppl when they're doing something they'll do anyhow!!!! :o |

This was posted by his dad on Club Rsx:
Hi, just to introduce myself, I am Bert's Dad.( Mugan Power)
I would first like to say thank you everyone's sincere prayers, thoughts and support.
I would like to clear something up since rumor's have apparantly has got out of control.
First of all, Bert's was not street racing, I know it sounds like a glorious way to go, but it is not. I say this not from what I would like to believe but from a witness who observe the whole accident and even helped to pull Bert out of the wreck. He has stated that Bert's car was northbound in the right lane of a 4 way highway to our house. One that Bert has drove home numerous of times. He observed that his car had suddenly pulled to the left and was immediatley out of control. There was not one car in front or behind him. It was a solo accident with no cars in the vicinity. He found it strange on how the car became out of control. I know that he may have been exceeding the 55 mph speed limit, but cannot explain why the sudden pull to the left and then the wheels locking up into a sideways slide back to the right and into a pole. I am not sure but am suspect maybe a maybe a mechanical problem, as the front left wheel roter was broke in half and sticking out. the pole hit the drivers door, not the wheel. the tow truck driver said he never seen a rotor broken in that way. So we will try and check to see what had happen. btw, the witness was a Naval Police Officer. I am just trying to find out what happen.
We miss Bert like no one could understand unless you have loss a son of your own. Again Thanks for the nice comments.
BTW, I do not condone street racing. It is dangerous to everyone. But to the one's who are glad for the death, I say you are some sad individuals. You should know what you are talking about before throwing words around so recklessly. But I guess words don't kill, they just hurt for a long time.
I don't feel that Bert at 17, deserved to die even if he slammed on the brakes, Isn't that what ABS is for?
Again Thanks for the thoughts and prayers,
Bert, Sr. |

he is old enough to be my dad :P hehehe j/k man, life's a bitch then you die, guy went out in his ride probably fucking around, shit happens. You're on this earth for a short time so make the most of it. I may sound heartless you shouldn't fear death, only dying... here's some quotes to think about...
"Death is as sure for that which is born, as birth is for that which is dead. Therefore grieve not for what is inevitable."
~ Bhagavad Gita ~
Loss and possession, Death and life are one. There falls no shadow where There shines no sun.
~ Hilaire Belloc ~
I do not believe that any man fears to be dead, but only the stroke of death.
~ Francis Bacon ~
Living is death; dying is life. We are not what we appear to be. On this side of the grave we are exiles, on that citizens; on this side orphans, on that children;
~ Henry Ward Beecher ~
For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. [1 Timothy 6:7]
~ Bible ~
Death is the liberator of him whom freedom cannot release, the physician of him whom medicine cannot cure, and the comforter of him whom time cannot console.
~ Charles Caleb Colton ~
Plan for this world as if you expect to live forever; but plan for the hereafter as if you expect to die tomorrow.
~ Ibn Gabirol ~
Death is the only inescapable, unavoidable, sure thing. We are sentenced to die the day we're born.
~ Gary Mark Gilmore ~
It matters not how a man dies, but how he lives. The act of dying is not of importance, it lasts so short a time.
~ Samuel Johnson ~
Teach me to live that I may dread, the grave as little as my bed.
~ Thomas Ken ~
Every man must do two things alone; he must do his own believing and his own dying.
~ Martin Luther ~
There is no such thing as death. In nature nothing dies. From each sad remnant of decay, some forms of life arise so shall his life be taken away before he knoweth that he hath it.
~ Charles Mackay ~
We begin to die as soon as we are born, and the end is linked to the beginning.
~ Marcus Manilius ~
At birth man is offered only one choice --the choice of his death. But if this choice is governed by distaste for his own existence, his life will never have been more than meaningless.
~ Jean-Pierre Melville ~
Men fear death, as if unquestionably the greatest evil, and yet no man knows that it may not be the greatest good.
~ William Mitford ~
O how small a portion of earth will hold us when we are dead, who ambitiously seek after the whole world while we are living.
~ Philip II ~
Death is not a period, but a comma in the story of life.
~ Amos Traver ~
Those who have lived a good life do not fear death, but meet it calmly, and even long for it in the face of great suffering. But those who do not have a peaceful conscience, dread death as though life means nothing but physical torment. The challenge is to live our life so that we will be prepared for death when it comes.
~ Unknown ~
The Best One....
Death is more universal than life; everyone dies but not everyone lives.
