I have a 1991 VW Passat with the 16v 2.0l motor, and 4 speed auto. It has power windows, locks, sunroof, mirrors, heated seats, A/C, 4 wheel discs w/ABS, it is white with dark blue interior.

The trans. hasn't shifted automatically for me yet. I have done a fair bit of research on the topic, and it sounds like it has gone into 'limp mode', which causes the car to start in third gear and remain in this gear. I doesn't however stop the trans from working manually, it can still be done(manually 1, 2, 3) but the top gear also isn't engaging. It sounds like an electrical solenoid issue, but I have not had the car looked at on the diagnostics computer because I am a student and just cannot afford to. I know that the trans. worked prior to me getting the car, as I talked to the last owner and he drove it from BC. It was just on the edge of town that his headgasket went, causing this. I replaced the headgasket and T. belt, and had the car OPI'd, it passed with brakes done and an alignment. As far as I know the rest of the car seems alright, I did drive it for a month (manually shifting) and it drove great, steering seemed tight, brakes are awesome, suspension seems tight and noise free, the windows all work great. All in all I don't know of anything wrong with it, it just doesn't shift automatically.
I am listing the car at this price, and don't desperately need to sell it, so if you have a reasonable offer please make it, otherwise I will keep the car and get it working when I can, Scott.
