AND OF COURSE HEAD 2 HEAD RALLY X ACTION WILL RETURN TO ALL OF OUR EVENTS IN 06

care to explain how this is going to take place? head to head action???

rules car requirements etc???

rexxrally
Head to head: Have you seen the pursuit skating competitions at the Olympics? It's very similar.

2 competitors square off on the same track, with one competitor starting at the start/finish line, and the other halfway around the track. Both start at exactly the same time, headed in the same direction (ie, both clockwise or both counterclockwise). The goal is to do your full lap of the course (or maybe even 2 laps) and get back to where you started before the other guy gets back to where he started.

We put marshals all around the track, and if one competitor starts to get too close to the other, we flag them down. Absolutely no contact is allowed and no passing.

And if you're really worried about rock chips, you can request to run alone on the track, we don't mind. It's just more fun to watch the head-to-head competitions. TurboMike and I squared off once last year, and we both skidded to a stop at EXACTLY the same time. It's was like synchronized Neon driving. It's hilarious!

And by the way, if you don't have a helmet, you can still come out and borrow one to run.

rexxrally
Rules and requirements: You need a basic street vehicle or race vehicle, that can pass a basic tech. Tech consists of:

1) Wheel bearings to make sure the wheels won't come off
2) Brakes - obviously they need to work properly
3) Steering - again pretty obvious
4) Battery - firmly held down
5) No loose articles in the car
6) Seatbelts for all occupants (regular street belts are good)
7) Tires - no bald ones (winter tires work best or gravel rally tires if you have them)
8) Seat that is not loose or wobbly
9) Roll cage or roll bars are NOT required

Requirements: You need to have a driver's license. You need to own the vehicle you are running, or have a written letter of permission from the owner, stating you can compete in the rallycross with their car. You need a helmet, or can borrow one from us. That's about it. Knowing the difference between left and right would be good, too.

And remember: Our events run on gravel, so you don't want to bring out a car with a paint job you're really obsessed with. Although the chances of getting a rock chip are still fairly low, there is the possibility that you MIGHT get one.

I'm in.

Any first timer tips? Tires(pressure, winter/all season, size)?

G

turbomike
You can run an all season tire but i think there is an advantage to running a snow tire or a rally tire. they just seem to hook alittle better. That said, you can make more time on the track being smooth with bald tires vs. being a hack with super rally tires.

presure... down alittle is ok but you run the risk of unbeeding the tire in a hard turn... trust me i know!

just come out bring your friends have some fun!

got_ae86
I should be there, just have to tidy up the car a bit.

rexxrally
I would definitely run winter tires at the very least, because they have the bigger open blocks that will grip the surface better. All seasons will just hydroplane (gravel-plane?) over the marbles and not stick.

Buy some cheap Wal-Mart winter tires. Go for the ones with the higher mileage rating, because they'll be harder, and will last longer on the gravel.

For pressure, run around 30psi to start. Lower than that and you run the risk (like TurboMike said) of them coming off. Any higher, and they won't be able to dig into the gravel, because they'll be too hard.

turbomike
im getting the same times as rex with all seasons..... you gota be smoooooth...

turbomike
trying to get numbers together... whos is going to be at the first event next weekend

gab
can we buy our memberships there? cuz i'll be back again in my wrx to get humiliated by the neons........lol

turbomike
yes you can... we will have the club forms ready at the track.

got_ae86
I'll be there. Question, I'm planning to buy some new winter tires. Should I go with a 13 inch or a 14 inch tire?

turbomike
put the right size tire on your car what rims do you have... if there is a choice 14 will fit more cars

Same times as me???? :D
Well, yeah, except for those 3 events that I beat ya. But I only beat ya at 3 events. How many events did I run? Oh yeah, 3.................. ;)

turbomike
ouch..... ok well close... well only time will tell if rex can be smooth in the snow. 7 days till the next event...
p.s. i can park daves car better than he can, so there!!!

rexxrally
Is there going to be snow in the parking lot, Mike, or are they going to plow it for us?

turbomike
6 days to go..............

yes the track was roughed in tonight. its 1.2km of intence hairpins and slight twisties. This track will be like a tight mountain road... light snow covered gravel with soft piles on each side. The key to speed? This will be the driver who can keep there car in the wheel tracks and on the gravel. getting off corse will land you stuck in the snow bank... very neat and smooth will be the key to taking home the big prize. Of course we have set up the head to head design with one more added bonus...

You will find out about that on race day...

got_ae86
What is the schedule for Sunday? Tech, drivers meeting, first run? Are spectators free?

turbomike
free to come and watch.....
10 to 11:30 reg tech
11:30 drivers meeting
11:45 slow drive of track
12: first car on track........

pits are paved and dry good viewing from that area

registration will be in the black trailer

So how big are the snow banks/piles. With a high of plus 5 today to get the melting going and only -7 on Sunday to freeze them up really good, I don't think those piles will be too soft by then.

turbomike
just came back from the track... the snow piles are a wopping 6" high tonight. they melted a good 6 inches today alone from 3 days ago you can walk through them no problem.

i know guys are worried about there body parts getting ripped off. i dont think it will bew a problem.

turbomike
3 days to go........

got_ae86
Another question, which class will head out first and so on? And is there a car cap?

:D

rexxrally
No car cap. We usually start out with the AWD cars, especially if there's lots of snow. If you need to show up late or leave early, just let us know, and we can accomodate you by stuffing your runs together in a short period of time.

CanuckDave
my beater needs a brake job, if I can get the parts together and get it done on saturday I'll be there :fingersx:

turbomike
love to see ya.... if you have brakes.........

rexxrally
WOOHOO!!! Look at that snow coming down out there! THAT will make it even more fun.

In case anybody is wondering, the event will be a "GO" regardless of the weather conditions.

Uh, Mikey, can you leave that snowplow blade on the front of your quad? Thanks!

turbomike

turbomike

thanks to all who came out and played in the snow

ChromeDragon
Thanks again for putting on the event Mike. 'Twas great fun.

got_ae86
Thanks for holding an awesome event. One thing for the next event, for the eliminator run both cars right off the start, when the faster car crosses the finish start timing on a stop watch. Or the other way around. It was cool to have tight races but 26 seconds felt like a life time. HAHAHAHHA.
