hello
i was wondering if anyone has heard about the ban that is hitting B.C, about skylines not meeting dot standards, has anyone in alberta heard anything yet, also do you think cars that are certified (pass o.o.p) now can they take that back!!! |

| havn't heard anything... |
|

| icydude |
there isnt anything that they can do right now.
and under the 15 yr rule the car shouldnt have to meet dot standards as it does not have to meet saftey standards.
the govn't put out a bulliten though. |

The only thing that I've heard was a push on certain JDM cars in regards to their headlights, which of course, are aimed the wrong way for North American roads. Trouble is that you can't just go to a local dealer and order the correct headlights, being as they never imported Skylines, Cosmos, and other cars into North America.
Time will tell what Transport Canada does with these cars...but those currently legalized are fine...they may simply close the door on some models in the future. |

| that bulletin is for car imported to BC. if they did the out of province in alberta, they dont have to follow those rules and such do they? |

This seems more like them getting on the cases of places doing the OOP inspections in B.C. Too many people are taking their cars to places that will sign off the OOP without even looking at the car and it might end up fucking over others.
These modifications shouldn't really cost much money to have done. Their biggest issues would be the lights and the cats in B.C. Glass, well who knows if that's really a big issue?:dunno: |

| i think its a matter of time till alberta and the rest of the province follow, i am just worried because i am about to sink 5000 grand into my skyline and i dont want to get f#%$ because they decide to change the 15years rule |

thats the one i meant
the 15 yr rule wont change.
but maybe bc will need to have proper cut offs.
i know a guy out in ontario that put a hid conversion in and changed the lights to lhd style as well. |

They can't take your car back if it's already here, no matter what. There's a few Mitsu Lancer Evo VIIIs that made it through before TC realised the difference. :) Lucky guys that got them... totally legal EVOs  |
|
|
| icydude |
they made it in becasue the cars had not yet been added to the list of inadmissble vehicles.
TC didnt realize the diff they just were too slow making changes to the list. |

difference between lhd and rhd headlights??? can someone explain?
and the difference between the different codes for the windowS? |
|
|
| icydude |
ok i will explain the lights as i dont know about the glass.
lhd lights will look like this:
| //// | | //// |
rhd lights look like this
| \\\\ | | \\\\ |
because they drive on the other side of the road their lights cut to a differnent direction to see the shoulder and not blind the other cars.
so now the rhd cars on lhd roads blind the hell out of people. |

I thought I would beat the rush...My headlight conversion search.
Quest for E-code headlamps.
My JDM Koite headlamp conversions actually put less light into oncoming vehicles than a lot of standard North American headlamps. DOT lights must illuminate overhead signs, while E - code & JDM headlamps cut off at a much lower level. They do put up a slant of light up and to the left, towards oncoming traffic however, and therefore they should be replaced.
It's not a huge expense, I think it's reasonable to make safety upgrades if it means keeping the market open. If you can't do the change right away I would recommend airming the headlights as low as you can while retaining usable illumination. |

| In most of the US states they have a 25 year rule for importing. If this is true think of how lucky you JDM guys out here are.... |
|
|
| icydude |
all of the usa has that rule.
25 yrs or older can come in fine.
but they can modify a car to comply with saftey standards like Australia can.
so Mark now i say think how lucky they are;)
the usa just needs to become australia.......as does Canada. |
|
|
| newaccorddriver |
| i dont think i get it. theres an exception to the 25 year old rule if they modify it to comply with the safety standards? |
|
|
| icydude |
yes you see back in 1998 JK Motors crash tested the skylines.
then Motorex got the crash test data from them for a price and began importing skylines legally but making them comply with usa saftey regulations.
So it takes alot of time and money but it can be done in the states.
Now in Australia they have a SEV's program which is less strict then the usa but they stil lallow brokers to modify the cars to comply with saftey standards. |

Pretty simple IMO what ICY DUDES sayin , got money have whatever you want.... Simple as that.
I figure that people should just give me a car. Ill fill the body panels with cement and then lets see how it fares on crash tests haha and a notorious 12-13 second car can amazingly be seen pulling 26's at bud park  at least it can hammer the competition in a game of chicken :)
I was bored been awhile since I "Chose" to say something stupid................... |
