hey guys i have a 94 integra gsr and once its warmed up it still runs below the halfway point on the temperature gauge. I get 400km per tank when i drive it conservatively and MAX iget 420-430. I recently had my thermostat changed and it is an acura/honda thermostat. Does anyone know what could be causing this loss of 100-150kms of mileage??:dunno:

usually in the winter theres more stop and go traffic, so that might be why your losing huge milage. on my BMW, i can usually get 500km per tank, and when the weathers bad out, it usually goes down to about 400km per tank. not sure about your temperature gauge though

Make sure your rad cap holds the rated pressure for the temperature issue.

People stop and go more in the snow?
Put a cardboard infront of your radiator. Should help a bit. |

Same here. Winter time I am getting approx 415km per tank. In the summer I am getting closer to 550km. But my car runs at least 15 minutes twice a day during winter with the remote start as well. Hope it helps a little.

My 95 Intrepid 3.5L V6 is only getting 400km a tank city driving, and here I was bitching. Can't compare it to summer, only got it in the fall. Sounds like you guys arent doing too bad.

I'm lucky if I get 175kms to a tank...in the summer. haha:p

Another reason for the poorer mileage in the winter is because of all the extra additives in the fuel

that sucks.:D |

A contributing factor could be the fact the air is colder and more dense... Something the forced induction guys know all about on hot summer days at the track :)

Hi TegGSR,
One thing to keep in mind is that on colder days your vehicle will use more fuel to warm up. Your fast idle will run longer and it will take a little longer to reach normal operating temperature. It is possible that you do have a faulty themostat and it is stuck in the open position. Also with the cold weather your car will use more fuel to compensate for the colder denser air coming past your MAF. This is good for power however not so plesant when you are on ice and snow.
In going with my thermostat theory, Honda install a cooler running thermostat? That too may be a possibility.
With my experience running a 4 cyl Nissan before, the engine temp was running cooler on very cold days in the winter which did affect my fuel milage.
Another possibility is a blown head gasket. Does your engine temperature gauge drop when driving on the highway? If your gauge is steady no matter what speed you are driving this issue is not likely.
Another option too is when was the last time you replaced your 02 Sensor(s). They should be replaced every 60 or 80,000 kms. But in the real world people do not like to pay an arm and a leg for this maintenance item. The 02 sensors are seldom replaced but can help increase fuel efficiency.
Just some food for thought.

thanks mike, ya the temperature is always steady it doesnt fluctuate and i am not sure about honda thermostats running cold but i'll look into it:thumbup:

Hi tegGSR,
I would think then your vehicle is functioning fine then. I would attribute the lack of fuel milage to the colder temperatures. Also simple maintenence items help to. These items include checking the air pressure in your tires, replacing your plugs and wires. You could look at getting your injectors cleaned or running some Liqui Molly Jectron (Avaliable from Autorolla) through your fuel system. Really just simple stuff can help. Check the pricing on the 02 Sensor(s). It may be worth replacing depending how many kms are on the car.
