Hell, I was upset that I picked up a windshield crack on the way down on highway 2. The Jetta is staying on tarmac thank you very much.
I half thought about going in the rallyX, but I stayed up watching the F1 qualifying Fri night and didn't get out there until the first run group was done. It may have sped things up if I had remembered to print the directions to the site. Who knew Cochrane was so big?
The RallyX course didn't look to bad mind you. The gravel was fairly small and non-damaging, but there was a really good bump going through that big puddle and a few people were scraping the front valence on the way through. Just made me cringe thinking about it. I'm only lowered about 1.2", but I seemed to scrape on everything this winter.
The rally was cool. The roads I saw were a real mix of dry gravel, mud and ice/snow. Must have been quite a challenge for the drivers.
About 50 people or so showed up to watch the stages in/near town. For the forest stages, we went to the furthest spectator area in and ended up standing around for quite a while with nothing to do.
The first car (Janusz) came by at speed, a minute later nothing, 2 minutes nothing, finally the third car (yellow Subie I think) comes along kinda slow, honking his horn like crazy and minus the co-driver. (First pic of the yellow subie going down the slightly snowy hill.)
Turns out that the white Talon had had a big off a couple km up the road and the co-driver remained behind with them. So that stage got scrubbed as did the return stage. The remainder of the cars that had already been released came by in a similar manner, and then returned at transit speed. Had to wait a couple hours for them to return for the final stages.
Tom finished the rally, which was his main goal. Not a threat for any trophies yet though.
Overall we had a good time. It was the first rally we had ever attended. It seemed a little disorganized at times, but what grassroots motorsport event doesn't?
And finally, as for this year's race season, new wheels are here, the boat from Korea should be arriving with the new tires about now.
(Gawd, I can be long winded! -_- ) |

I think it finished fourth overall (only about 12 or 13 cars entered) and its completely stock! (except roll cage and stuff) What I heard was, he's having trouble finding performance parts. No one makes anything for it yet. At least nothing rally related. |
