New VIN number - Click HERE for Original Thread

dance_of_curse
I have a question about getting a new vin number for a car.
The car is said to have its vin taken to be used on another car that was crashed or something so i was wondering if it would be possible to get a new one and if so how much it would cost.

It does sound kinda fishy getting a new vin so i wanna make sure about the car before i put any money on it to see if its legit and wasnt previously stolen or anything.

Thanks for the Help!

I dont even think that it is legal to get a new vin # for a car. The only reason I can see that a vin would be missing is if it was a stolen car. If I were you I would take a good look at this car before you buy it. The story sounds pretty fake to me. :dunno:

yeah i was just told of it tonight so i wanna see if its even worth persuing the intrest in it.
if it was stolen i could allways look for the 3rd vin...well ill see how it all pans out.

but yeah it might be legal like cause if it was stolen i believe it was/is recorverd because its at a wreckers right now..lol.

so i dont think the cops would be unaware of it. but yeah ill keep looking

i think it is possible to get a new vin because of all these japanese imported cars need vins because of the serial numbers they have instead.

It is possible to get a new VIN, at least it was when I lived in Vancouver last year. My buddies 4runner was stolen and recovered from a shipping container, the VIN numbers were removed and he was issued a new VIN once he got his car back.

You can get a new VIN by contacting your local police after a full vehicle inspection. It's the same process as if you were licensing a home-built car -- such as a Lotus Super-7 replica -- yourself.

do you know how much it cost if it does cost anything?

were going to go check it out tomorrow if it looks liek it was stolen then ill have to see the police report before ill even consider...unless its just like a broken key problem and the far out story is true:p

Mustard
yeah man, it all sounds a little too fishy to me...

i wouldn't even consider it, if it's a really good deal on top of it, it's DEFINETLY not worth following up, cause then you KNOW it's fishy :p

regardless, i'd walk away before it gets ugly.

dance_of_curse
well as long as it went through the right services if it was previously stolen i think it will be all good if not...ill stay away!

its a good deal though if it is true no rust also..lol...

dance_of_curse
its partly dissassemble and does not look worth my time. but i have more of the story and its the other car got in a accident and was written off so he bought another of the same car and just took the vins off so he could drive it.

thanks for all the help:thumbup:

no doubt man. hook me up with the number lol j/k:D

if you need a 240 for a parts car maybe! lol...maybe i can score the front subframe/suspension maybe the rear also..lol

talonstylz
I had that done to my previous talon, when i swapped the dash i forgot to swap the vin, then when i got pulled over, they impounded the car because the vins didn't match, all i had to pay is the impound fee, and 60 for a guy to come and assign a new vin for the car, they obviously made sure the dash didn't come from a stolen vehicle first. The car now has a 6 digit vin, and Blaine B. is the one who bought it and is driving it for anyone that needs proof.

Wait your getting a 91 240sx for 500 bones. That is a damn good deal. I would get it regardless:lol:. I think if you can get it for that cheap i dont think that you should worry about the price for a new vin because for the money you are saving it is well worth it. How did you find it for so cheap? Is there an engine? Or is the guy just trying to get rid of a stolen car?

dance_of_curse
yeah its complete cept for no vins and no locks like door/hatch cover lock cause they guy took it for his car

and no im not going to buy it i think im going to go for a cressi just because i can get it on the road much easier

lol well the problem is that you buy this 240 for $500 and unless you allready have one it wouldnt be very smart to drop like$3000 for another....damn initial d prices
