I recently switched over to MM a couple days ago and honestly, I don't remember dealing with a more informative and cooperative company in my entire life.
I was with AMA before and they didn't really seem too keen on what they were doing. Felt like some of the questions that I asked were answered with a bit of trepidation/guess work.
At MM, if the employees didn't know an answer, they'd put me on hold for a quick sec to get the answer from a supervisor. It was great. I asked anything I wanted and got a solid answer back right quick.
Haven't made a claim with them, but some friends have and they said it was pretty hassle-free.
just wanted to say in case there were people out there that aren't too confident in their insurance company. I'm also paying $1500 less with MM vs AMA on full coverage for 2 cars. |

| I'm with them and yes they are amazing. I have made a claim before when my turbo deuce was stripped and they handled it with ease, fairness, and in a swift fashion. |

just got a friend to switch over too from AMA (AMA=pricey!).
before he was paying like $1300 for a new jeep liberty and whatever extra for an old tempo.
he just got a quote from the net just cause he was curious... but he's saving so much he'd be dumb not to switch over. now he's paying $1250 for BOTH cars. insane.
wonder why AMA can't match those prices? I mean, insurance for my civic went down by over 40%. |

from my understanding of things, there's no more 'over 25' rule. each driver now is rated based on a 10 star rating or something like that. I think (and don't quote me on this) that each year you go ticket/claim-free, you get upped a star.
you earn stars based on the number of claims made, how many tickets, how long you've been continually insured, how long you've had your liscence, if you've ever had your license revoked, etc.
you also get a discount if you're a UofA grad and if you have a professional certification (MD/lawyer/professional engineer/etc)
you can totally call and ask why your insurance is so high. They'll even tell you what star they rate you. |
|
|
| Jord@n |
| I don't think you get 'stars'. I think it's just a rating based on a 10-point level or ladder. Everyone starts at 0. Drivers training brings you down a point or two, and every year or two you go claimfree you move down the ladder. Then at-fault claims bring you up the ladder ;). |

I'm a u of a grad as weel, and an engineer, so I'm on their APEGGA group plan. I wonder if there are other group plans out there.
I pay so little and have never had any problem with their service. These guys are first rate, and I have never felt scared to phone them to ask questions, never had strange rate problems, etc. In fact, my rates have consistently gone down every year.
I feel like I got an impressive deal bundling my apartment contents insurance with my auto with them. It costs me an extra $10 a month to insure everything I own in my place.
I'm still waiting for my 180sx to cross the deep blue, but when it gets here, MM gave me not a single hassle about a RHD car, and told me that they are insuring my 180sx as a comparable year 240sx, and that if I went and got an independant appraisal they'd insure full coverage on that amount, even if it's greater than what I've paid! :D
MM is great! |

Um real quick can I just ask what their number is?
I'm getting a honda integra xsi in couple weeks and I'd love
to insure it with them if it's going to be hassle free and cheap. |

I'm getting a little tired of my company. My rates aren't terrible, but I don't have any infractions that affect my rates, yet they aren't really giving me any breaks. Basically they give me the grid rate and that's it.
They have screwed me around in the past though and have refused to insure a JDM vehicle, so I'll likely switch to someone else eventually. |
|

Just a general questions, since I haven't actually registered a JDM vehicle just yet: what happens if you don't tell them? Does it even matter if it's right hand drive? I know the Serials or VINs are different, but it's not like RHD or LHD goes on your registration...
And isn't there a registration and licensing system designed for collectors or classic cars? What exactly qualifies here?
Oh, and has anybody had a JDM car insured under their insurance co and then had them change their mind and refuse to insure it past the current year or something? Because it would be good to know what you can and can't get away with.
Personally, if you insure your car with PLPD only (i.e. just liability) it seems strange to me they even care what kind of car you have. If you say it has 2 doors, is blue, and has 4 wheels and you want PLPD, it's amazing they actually care. |

| prolly digging this outta the dead, but just wondering. You have to belong to a certain group to get this insurance dont you? Unfortunatly my school isnt on the list (from Newfoundland). Most people get it from being in U of A I assume. |
|
|
| the_fornicator |
| no you don't have to be with any group to get insurance with them. it just helps. |

| Ah it wont give me a quote on the net without being one of those groups, it sends me to there sister company TD. |

| I belong to the APEGGA group - the association of professional engineers, geologists, and geophysicists of alberta. From what I understand tho, TD Melonche Monnex will take any customers. The APEGGA group plan is an incredibly good deal though, but you have to be registered as a professional in with APEGGA in order to get it. I would assume most other professional engineer associations or other group plans offer pretty similar rates. For me, I think the benefit was an instant 5 out of 6 star insurance rating and very good rates before they had the current 'no fault' insurance system they have today. It saved me a lot of dough :) |

That makes sense. Melonche Monnex is a branch of TD, and their full name is "TD Melonche Monnex" |

| I think there is a similar group in Newfoundland. I am a Mechanical Engineering Student and am on work term up here for the summer. |

thought I'd give it a shot, hearing all the praise... Of course not being a "member" of theirs was directed to main TD site (I work for a different financial institution...couldn't imagine why it's not on the list LOL)
Sooo...the TD questionaire blows-it didn't like my tele # (I'm with Shaw so it's a goofy one), so I plugged in my old Telus one (which has been disconnected for over a yr)...then proceeded with their ?s...only to find out you have to print it, snail mail it and wait 2-4 weeks for a quote!! |
