I'm trying to understand all the fees involved with buying a car from an auction. It seems overwhelming..is this right?
First there is the auction fee of $1400
Then there is the Import concern fee of $1300
Ther there is the shipping fee of $700
Then there is the storage fee of $150+
Then there is GST? PST?
Then there is DUTY?
Then there is OPI FEE?
Then there is Transport Canada FEES?
Then there is the transportation fee from Vancover?
Do we pay the GST twice beacuse it's put in Import Concern's name when it arrives?
Also I'm jsut wondering why a private sorced vehicle is so hard to obtain, and how long does the process takes in Japan. There no fees with this?
Also I read that the shipping company may not take the car untill they're ready. What's the longest someone had to wait because of shipping delays?
How bad are the theft and vandalism issues between Japan and Canada?
Sorry for the questions, I'm seriously considering an Fd form Japan if it's cheaper then whats available here. |

| theft at port is one that hits home with me. My GTS-4 arrived, but it's minus the stereo, boost controller and side skirts. :-( If you read enough posts, you'll see that theft is fairly common for easy to sell items. From what i understand, however, it's at teh port in Japan, not here, that this happens. You can ask to have the smaller stuff removed and shipped separately, but this will, obviously, cost more |

Where are you getting these numbers from?
Estimated Vehicle & Importation Cost / I. C. Service Fee
---------------------------------------------
Less than $5000 / $800 + GST
$5000 - $9999 / $1200 + GST
$10000 or more / $1500 + GST
If the car is from auction, GST will be paid on the cost as it arrives to canada, then you will pay GST to the I.C. service fee. PST depends on what province you are from, anywhere other than alberta will require PST.
You can source your own car through Yahoo Japan Auctions, much like Ebay. Heres the link for Yahoo Auctions RX7. There are fees, a exporter has to bid on the car, and get it shipped to the exporter. So the shipping cost and the exporters time.
I'm honestly not sure on auction fees, They wouldn't be that high though, I just bought a new car throught auction , no way i'm paying 50% of what i paid for the car in auction fees. I think they are inculded in your bid price. If not chance are it would be a percentage.
Shipping fees are expensive, when you add up everything. I.C. Works out all of the cost, if you are looking to get an exact price, its hard because exchange rate is constantly changing... there are lots of factors.
4 months it a WORST case, on average, month and a half to 2 month after the car is legal.
Transport from Vancouver cost as well, they have a page outlining the cost, but it is outdated, they have since switch transport companies.
Theft does happen, they will only ussally go for small parts (gauges, shift knobs, stereos..ect) You can have the stuff remoeved and shipped sperately, but its at a cost, I would suggest it if you really want to keep the stuff. Vandalism/damage is rare and can be claimed. |
